I need a holster for a S&W 686 7 shot. It is to be worn at the two o'clock position, on the belt. I'd like the belt slots to be as widely spaced as possible. Any suggestions?

Two o'clock generally would be straight drop or muzzle forward cant. Wide spaced belt slots would typically be a pancake. Most pancakes are muzzle rear canted, which would most likely limit your choices.

DM Bullard makes the shallow canted Combat Holster http://dmbullardleather.com/1429711.html

You could probably use the cross draw slot on the 3-slot holsters like Simply Rugged's Sourdough Pancake https://www.simplyrugged.com/ecomme...oncealment-Holster.cfm?item_id=151&parent=669

C. Rusty Sherrick has some cross draw, non-pancakes that may work http://www.c-rusty.com/pages/holsters/cross.html

He also has some straight drop models that may work http://www.c-rusty.com/pages/holsters/vertbelt.html

I'll do some more looking...

You didn't say what barrel length. I have a 3" and carry it in a:
DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard Belt Holster Right Hand Smith & Wesson L-Frame 386PD, 581, 586, 681, 686 3" Barrel Leather

+1 for the DeSantis Speed Scabbard. I prefer the one without the thumb break. I have one for all the guns I normally carry. I've used them as a duty holster and they hold the gun securely without the strap.

I wear my 686 plus 3" OWB at 3:00, which is not quite as far forward as you. I have two pancake holsters that I use, although both have a forward cant. You may be able to specify vertical drop if you ordered from these companies, which you would probably need if you are wearing at 2:00.

First is the "Enhanced Pancake" model from Lobo Gun Leather:

Second is the "Predator" model pancake holster from Wright Leather Works with the "Master Collection Upgrade":

I would recommend both of these companies highly. The Lobo is reasonably priced, but very well-made providing good fit and retention. The Wright Predator is a super-premium holster (translation: very expensive) but is well worth it IMHO. The quality of the leather as well as the construction and stitching is superb.

I hope that helps!

Where are you located ?I have a guy who has done a couple for my 3 inch 686+ basically a L frame S&W or GP100 Ruger

I bought an Azula holster for it on Amazon. It's a straight drop with no cant. We'll see how it works. If not, I very well may be re-checking this thread for some of these other makers.
