Hornady 30-30 170 gr SP flat nose with a rather large meplat...advantages???

Hornady 170 gr. SP flat nose has a wider meplat compared to other brands flat nose 30-30 170 gr. loads (for example, Grizzly Cartridges and Winchester).

This causes a significantly quicker loss of velocity and energy downrange compared to other 170 gr. loads SP with a smaller meplat or round nose.

What are the advantages of such large meplat in a soft point bullet anyway compared to a round nose vs. the obvious ballistic disadvantages?? Quicker bullet upset and expansion?? More "smack down" effect on game??

Could be quicker expansion, which on deer is a good thing. I doubt the deer will notice though.

I find that they simply shoot better in my rifles than bullets with a more rounded profile. Reason enough for me to use em.
