I got my hands on a couple boxes of the new Hornady ELD Match tipped ammo to see if I could improve the groups with my Savage 12 chambered for 6.5 Creedmoor. Since I don't reload yet I've been running with Hornady 140 grain Match A-Max. I've had mixed results so far with certain lots doing OK, some doing better. Pretty much it's been shooting just under MOA.

After warming up with some A-Max, I gave the ELD a try. I really don't know if the ELD tips make any difference at 200 yards but, this is hands down the best group I've managed to get out of the rifle so far.

Figured I'd share some joy with the good folks at THR :)

That shoots a whole lot better than the $2 more per box Federal American Eagle 6.5 CM 140gr Match ammunition I shot yesterday in my AI. I have a bunch of the 6.5mm 140gr ELD Match bullets but haven't got around to trying them yet. Hornady's factory 140gr A-MAX load works well in my rifle with consistent 0.5 moa groups and my handloads with the same bullet almost halve that. I'm expecting good things from the ELD bullet. Would you be interested in shooting a 10-shot group at 100 yards?

Looks good! I just bought a box of those bullets to reload for my 6.5 Ruger Precision Rifle. I hope to do as well as you.

MCMXI,

I'm heading out of town tomorrow and on vacation next week, I'll see about trying that when I get back in town.

Very nice group! If that's repeatable your stars have aligned!

No doubt you and the rifle did its part. Good shooting!

Nice group "Mikebutt" :)

Tell me about that chassis your model 12 is sitting in.

Very funny Nature Boy, lol

That's a McRees Precision G7 chassis. I think McRees offers an exceptional chassis value if you like their offerings. They aren't especially lightweight but they are built like a tank. With long barrels like the one on this Savage, the folding option is a must for portability. My only quibble is I find their application of Cerakote to be less durable than I'm used to seeing for that product but, what should I expect for a $57 paint job? None of my rifles are being entered in a beauty pageant so it doesn't both me.
