Hot brass in the can

I'm glad my outdoor range installed screens. I had too many bad experiences with overzealous cartridge ejectors. Never any burns from a spent cartridge, but I've been beaned a few times. Invariably it was the guys with AR-15s that really caused problems, too, as certain uppers will eject the spent shell almost directly sideways. One guy was shooting a lot and beaning people 2 tables away from him. Jerk. I always try to be courteous, particularly when shooting my PSL. I'll grab one of the extra screens and put it up for added protection to those behind me, since I know that thing throws the brass a long ways.

we have had more than one girl rip her shirt and bra away trying to extract hot brass from the cookie jar. is it wrong to replay that on the security tapes? im just not sure...

I know it hurt, but I laughed till I almost cried watching that. I must be a sicko or maybe I just needed a laugh.

Being left handed, I've burned myself a few times with semi-autos; 30-06 brass will leave a mark. That's one of the reasons I ordered a left hand AR. Just tired of dealing with it. The upside is, if I shoot to the left of a right handed shooter, neither of us will eject brass toward each other. :)

I once had a 9mm casing drop in between my shooting glasses and my eye. Luckily, I sustained no injuries, but it scared the living daylights out of me.

Same thing happened to me. I had a light burn mark on my eyelid, but it went away fairly quickly.

I have had hot brass burn me a few times.

One landed on my glasses frame centered on my eyebrows. Good reason to wear a billed cap.

I have had a couple go down my shirt in summer. Good reason to wear tighter t-shirt.

Very distracting from a good sight picture.

It seems that most of us have had this happen. I however did a really stupid thing one time, thought I'd be cool and show off and stood to the side of my son shooting he G-17 and caught the brass, really dumb.

--- Question ---

Are some cailbers "colder"?

I've been hit by casings at the range, and a friend one time caught a pistol case in her hand, but neither of us have been burnt.

Anyways, on occasion, the Bersa Thunder I shoot will eject directly upwards, and hit my head on the way down.

It's more impressive when you manage to brass someone with a bolt-action.....my Dad's Remy 514 will sling a .22LR brass a good 20 feet if you pull the bolt back sharply.
I managed to drop a .22 brass into my shoe once. Oh, that was NOT pleasant at all. I had line shaped burns from the rim and circle shaped ones from the throat, about 4 or 5 of each, plus I burned my fingers when I finally got ahold of it and pulled it out.

Working at a shooting range, couples commonly come in to shoot. If a lady is wearing a low-cut shirt/blouse, I'll let her know that she may want to put on a jacket or shirt to avoid getting hot brass down the blouse.

It makes for awkward conversation, but both are always appreciative. The couple, that is... I mean, the lady and her fella are appreciative.

It is (very) amusing to talk about, but the fact is, it's dangerous to have someone freak out with a loaded weapon in their hand due to hot brass down the shirt.

When I was taking my sweet-heart to the range for some practice (she was a new shooter) I told her she might want to change her blouse. She is very well endowed and it was a very low cut top. She kind of asked in a huff why for, so I just said she will learn and we went on to the range. She gave me that really wild questioning look.
She started shooting and then a wild 40cal brass bounced of the side curtain and went right to the crumb crack and luckily we were there alone and she did set the firearm on the table pointed the right direction while she ripped her top and bra down. She then proceeded to remember my remark and started beating me for not forcing her to change her top. I will say that now if I say we are going to the range she puts on an appropriate top that she can button on her neck. All it takes is once for her to learn that lesson.

I made the mistake of wearing shorts to one of the matches at my first trip to Camp Perry. Shorts felt great in the heat until I got roasted by some hot brass during the rapid fire strings.

Lesson learned...

In light of this thread, perhaps antis should go after bottom-ejecting guns to retain their masochistic legislative style, as dawned by the banning of the evil barrel shroud.

I still remember the first time I shot a .50 BMG and ejected the case. It was damn near cold and I just couldn't figure it out. I KNOW I felt it recoil... :)
