House to move toward vote on Assault Weapons ban - 1st time in decades

With "gun culture" shifting for next generation of voters (Millennials, GenZ, Gen Alpha) as it did for Gen X/minorities/LGBTQ/feminists, gun rights is becoming less and less a partisan issue.

IMO, the "anti-gun" crowd will push hard to get as many anti-gun laws passed as 2022 and certainly by 2024 elections will heavily lean towards pro-gun law makers to enforce recent pro-gun 2A Supreme Court rulings.

The writing's on the wall and you will see last ditch efforts/hail Mary antics from the "anti-gun" crowd before decades of their work will be undone by incoming law makers/Supreme Court.

If it passes the House, it will die in the Senate. So we don't have to worry about it becoming law.

But I would like to see the legislative language. This could be a window into their thinking. Definitions? Grandfather clause? Sunsetting?

As far as I can tell it is a ban on sales or trade. It has an exemption for tube fed 22 rimfire semiauto but not for something like a 10/22 with a detachable magazine configured with a pistol grip or something like a M&P 15-22.

I just read the bill. It has an absolute grandfather clause for all weapons possessed on the date of enactment. So it's a prospective ban on manufacture or import after the date of enactment. Sort of a Hughes Amendment for semiautomatics.

Considering the millions of guns now out there, plus the ones to be added before such a thing is signed, it is toothless. The main effect will be that values will go up. And there will be an unbelievable rush to buy. Net effect: more guns. The antigunners' stupidity knows no bounds.

From a consumer viewpoint, With no gun or ammo buying panic after Uvalde or HIghland Park Chicago,

this Circus in Congress might also hit the “Alien Ship Defensive Bubble”, if you know what I mean.

But why worry about it?

it’s more productive to find some cash (trade etc) and buy one More gun or accessories.

If they decide - to receive good 'publicity' - that future imports of the Czechpoint VZ-58 (like mine) will Not have a threaded muzzle, bayo lug, or a pistol grip, oh well......

This raises Heaps of Cash..

for political campaign$.

That is their most critical priority.

These gun topics exist Because of politics.:alien:
It seems pretty obvious.
Yep. There’s a reason we don’t have a federal law allowing CCW. It’s the same reason we don’t have a federal law mandating abortion access. Both parties have had chances to codify their base issues over the years, and both chose not to do so because it would take away their fund raising boogeyman.

Since this discussion is about a “Bill” I am attaching links to the bill.

Here is a link to a Congressional summary of the bill itself:

Notice that in the actual bill they list all the guns one cannot have and also guns they deem “okay”. Typical “California” move. After a quick read of the bill it’s obvious the riders haven’t been attached so manipulation can occur to get more signatures to approve the bill.

The list should be of concern because all it takes is one sentence to deem the “approved” list to be the “ONLY” list for approved long guns. Also, lists can be used for revenue generation by forcing manufacturers to pay exorbitant “fees” to get guns on a list.

Also, law enforcement, both active and retired are exempt. Just like the California laws. In my opinion this is BS. It’s how they get law enforcement sign on. I mean no offense to law enforcement officers. You all have my sincerest respect. This is how they get police “management” endorsements of laws here in this armpit of a state.

This has “California” written all over it. This is a point that Pro 2A groups need to drive home all over the country. The big “C’s” are Cancer, California and Communism and they all seem to spread similarly.

Gee, isn't this terrible. The Democrats want to ban 'assault' rifles. When the Republicans had control of House and Senate - Great Leader Mitch McConnell did nothing to promote or let come to the floor Reciprocity and the SAGA act (one to ban state AWBs). Now, you might say that they couldn't pass given the filibuster and it would just be a gesture. However, they were happy to make gestures over Obama care, over and over. Wouldn't a proRKBA gesture or two be a good thing?

Think about it before the usual venting over ideological posturing from a known antigun party. To me this is another legislative yawn.

Second, think about why Scotus has avoided taking an AWB case. Supposedly sending cases back is a big deal - with years of screwing around probably - why not just take a clear case and make a clear decision (rather than their ambiguous blather)?

Instead, the Californian Communists are coming - Lion, Tigers and Bears - oh my!
