other than their obvious external cosmetic differences, are these guns functionally similar? They both look very close to me and i am not sure why HK would make both if they are similar.

Does the p2000 only come with LEM trigger? or can it be DA/SA also?

I'm not sure about internals and such, but I know the P30 has replacable palmswells as well as backstraps. The p2000 only has backstraps I believe. I also think they can both be had with several different versions of the LEM trigger, DA/SA, or DAO. Other than that, the only differences I can see are dimmensions and weight. But variety, even cosmetic variety, is the spice of life! LOL

Following H&K discontinuing the P7M8/13, they introduced the USP as their Service sized gun. When they decided to offer a smaller compact gun, the introduced the P2000 with improved ergonomics.

When it came time to replace the USP, they designed the P30. They updated the best of the USP and incorporated the ergos of the P2000...they also included replaceable grip panels designed by Nills. So they really aren't that similar.

They share a family linage, but the P30, besides being designed as a Service gun, is a more refined design
