How do You Carry Big Revolvers?

I have been carrying my 7.5" redhawk weak side in an uncle Mike's nylon holster, butt forward. Kinda poor man's crossdraw. Don't really like it that much, but it's more comfortable for in and out of the truck or chair than a shoulder rig. I am in the market for a high quality strong side holster though.

Galco Miami Classic for my GP100 6" - kinda wish the leather shoulder strips were thicker, but I've carried that gun many miles over the past 5 years. Fits under a wool jacket or vest too, which is a plus.

Nothing personal but how many miles have you hiked in that rig?
Many. Hiking is really the only exercise I do and we go out at least once a week. Its actually quite comfortable. The wide belt helps spread the load and it hugs the leg pretty good. I really dont notice its there after a while.

When carrying a rifle and walking I prefer an El Paso crossdraw. When riding a 4 wheeler knocking around the club property I carry strongside a model 629 4 inch in a Cyclone 100 holster most times.

When sitting in a stand, I like the el Paso tanker with the 629. I also sometimes use the tanker holster when on the 4 wheeler. This is a very comfortable holster and fits me very well.

Both the Bianchi Cyclone and Galco Phoenix are dual position holsters that can worn strong side or cross draw. Typically the Cyclone sells for around $80 and the Galco $130.

I had a custom chest holster made of kydex for my 7.5" stainless Redhawk Hunter. It's modeled after the Kenai chest holster. $150 for the Kenai holster on Amazon. $40 for mine. Big revolvers put too much pressure on my hips for long hikes in the woods.

My 6" 29 is in a old Bianchi shoulder holster think is a 15 I don't carry all that much

Just walk out in side yard and shoot and back in house.

Chest rig, sometimes known as a "tanker" or "hunter" rig. The gun rides high at an angle over your sternum. You can sit, bend, run, climb, thread through brush, etc. without snagging the gun on anything. Works with overalls or hip waders.

Looks strange, but very practical.

Strong side Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake for a 5.5 inch Redhawk. Can carry it with that holster all day.

Are you also wearing any kind of pack for gear? You also carrying a bow or rifle?

When i hunt with bow or rifle i carry crossdraw(left side butt forward). I have also carried in a ww2 tanker style holster as well.
Does the tanker style holster work out pretty well for you? I recently won a bid on GunBroker for a Ruger Police Service Six with a four inch barrel and have been considering one of these for "woods" bumming.

On my own acreage, I normally carry a wheel gun; either a 6" barreled .357 Mag or a 2" barreled in the same chambering, depending on what I'm doing. The former is carried in a black leather holster, the latter in a pancake holster. Both strong side.

Yes pretty good. If you dont have one with a wrap-around-the-body strap they can be a little floppy, but not bad once everything is adjusted.

I use to have a Redhawk .44 Magnum that was a perfect fit in a British WWII khaki web holster made for a Webley Mk.VI with a 6" barrel.
