It's not my cup of tea, but if your friend likes it, more power to him. I had zombies engraved on my Vintage Russian TT-33 Tokarev along with some American Scrollwork done.
I placed it out for show and tell at my gunshop and sold it within 15 minutes for an obscene price. You never know.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. Not that I fault people for buying what they want - that's the beauty of freedom - but to me, nothing screams "tacky" like a skull on a gun.

Let's cut the guy some slack. I think "it's not my style" or just not answering are both sufficient answers that can be used without putting somebody's work down.
Besides, i believe that is the Punisher Emblem? I think its cool to customize a gun to correspond with another interest. I probably wouldnt use it for self defense though as a DA would be quick to imply the skull means you were looking to kill someone.

Not my cup of tea either. I don't care for the skull and I prefer all black not two tone. Other then that I love it LOL.

Any Hi Power at a good price is worth having. I sure wouldn't want a lawyer showing that gun to a jury in a civil suit following a self defense shooting...

The gun is outstanding, the skull could do with a little black magic marker or flat black paint. I love my hi-power and if your friend got a good price he is one lucky guy!

BHP's are great, getting one at a great price is great, if it shoots good, well, great.
The finish on that BHP is not great. I would get it refinished and everything would be great. The night sights are great, if they still glow.
If your Bud doesn't like the grips they can be cut down, like I did to these.

Different generations put different focus on such markings as the skulls. To the younger generation which embraces tattoos the skull would just be an extension of the markings they've put onto their bodies. I'm old but I understand the desire to decorate. However I'm not about to be found any time soon at a tattoo joint.
The fact that the skull looks like it was scratched into the finish usng a point from the star speaks more than the fact that it's there at all. If someone is going to mark up a nice gun they owe it to the gun to at least do it well and not as slipshod as this one was done.
But in the end I'd go for a gun without the skull and without the painted on Gunkote or other finish. Give me a nice satin looking or eve glossy blued finish.

The Skull is very well done; you just need to know what it is you're looking at. I can't believe I'm the first to recognize it from "The Punisher." (A dark comic book, also Movies.)

I agree that most who saw it made the "Punisher" connection straight away.
I also am not a fan of skulls on anything except for perhaps landmine warning signs and the Jolly Roger (since I loved the Goonies as a kid).
However, as I mature I've learned that what I might find silly, others may very well find neato. For example, a small, faint/hard-to-see Gadsden snake (sans writing) laser etched behind the rear serrations on a 1911 I would think as interesting enough to be "cool". I'm absolutely certain there are plenty of folks who would find that silly.
If the owner is pleased with it, that's all that matters (until/if he ever plans to sell it).

I guess I just think guns are dramatic enough, for lack of a better word, on their own. Skulls, snakes and such dramatic imagery are superfluous. If I got something etched or engraved on a gun, it'd be a little tasteful scrollwork.

If you want to decorate your pistol the grips are a good place. When on display or out to the range with your friends everyone can admire your taste, and when you want to carry the thing, you can switch back to less controversial grips. Win win .
