How far do you drive to shoot if at all?

I go to PA to shoot. All the ranges in or near NYC just suck.

77mi one way. About an hour and 40mins drive in a not particularly fuel efficient car (16mpg)
$15 entry fee shoot all day.

Pretty decent range. The clays range is pretty basic. Just throws going straight away from you. But if there's no crowds. They'll let you set the thrower on the far end of the firing line so you can get some passing shots.

There's another club at right about the same drive for me that has even nicer facilities and is even cheaper. But requires membership and they're not taking applications right now. Sad face :(

Yea I don't get to go shooting too much. But still better than the crappy indoor ranges around here.

State park range is $24 per year and a 10 mile drive from my workplace. Which is not bad at all. But that closes at 5:00pm, so it's then a 40 mile drive in rush-hour traffic to get home. It is far too crowded on weekends and not open on Monday and Tuesday.
I find it more relaxing most times to just go to one specific hunting area, which no one uses, and just woods walk with a .22 or bow (and a hunting license) for enjoyment. There are always a couple of varmints in season there to poke around for.

Where I live, it sucks. I drive about 1 hour and 10 minutes to a range that has a 25, a 50, and a 100-yard range only. The good news is that it's only $5 for all-day shooting.

I used to go to a place that was only 35 minutes away; however, it cost $15/hour. I usually spent 3-4 hours, so this was absurd.

There are some indoor ranges that are also $10-$15/hour, and that are only a few minutes away. I hate indoor ranges, though.

I moved to this place from Idaho. When I was there, you just drove a few miles into the desert and shot until you were too tired to shoot anymore. I wasn't good enough for 100+ yard shots back then, but could have done about as far as I wanted. I miss that.

30 miles, free to shoot.

Im about to join a pistol club though (125$ per year). No centerfire rifle. It will be 20 miles.

I only have to step out of my house. I am setup to shoot up to 100m in the backyard. If I want to shoot over longer distances, I just walk over to the contiguous ~180 acre ancestral farm.
Im jealous of you types.

lol did you hit the cattle?

No, one of my horses is deathly afraid of gunshots and gets all of the others wound up. Having to doctor one for 7m pretty much cured that...

There's not a day that I'm not thankful for it either. For a guy born and raised in Chicago, that is a world away now.

But to answer the question...

For pistol, shotgun or anything out to 600 yards...I step outside the door. I actually have a shooting table in the garage that I move out about 15 feet for this. A bullet trap stands waiting for pistol use. Range targets at 50, 100, 200 and 500 are permanent.

When I want to shoot long range (over 600) I get in the truck and drive out past that first little hill.

I prefer to go to the free range which is about 1 hr each way, but I am a member of a private club that is about 10 minutes away from my home. It is much more formal there and I prefer to shoot alone or nearly alone.

25 miles one way trip,,,

It's a 25 miles one way trip to my Rifle & Pistol Club,,,
That's not too far for me to drive.

The bummer part is I once considered buying a 1/2 acre lot and mobile home,,,
I passed on it at the time for various reasons that are unimportant now,,,
If I would have known about the rifle & Pistol club then,,,
My drive would have only been 4 miles.

60 miles one way. Good thing is it's free to shoot there since it's a state run facility. It's the only place in my vicinity that I can shoot Black Powder at. Not real good for pistols though since the minimum range is 25 yards.

About 15 minutes for 25 yards indoors (rifle/pistol/shotgun no birdshot)

About 1 hour 15 minutes up to 100 yards outdoors (rifle/pistol/shotgun including skeet range, but no "rapid fire")

That the range at Sharon Johnson? If so let me know how you like it. It's only about 5-6 miles from the house.
Yup! Will do. They said I can chrono my loads too! A lot closer (and probably safer) than Swan Creek.

I went and checked it out, it's a little weird. Kind of indoor/outdoor covered barn type thing:)
Sorry thats my best description.

There are formal indoor and outdoor ranges all around me, but they are either private, or require you to buy their "clean" range ammo at crazy prices. I am a reloader and a cheapskate, so this is not an attractive option.

For me, it's well worth the 45-minute drive each way to the Tillamook State Forest, where there are informal gravel pits all over the place. You can usually find a decent spot with high backstop, where you are alone, can set up your own target stands (Not Live Trees!), and can do things you can't at formal ranges like draw from a holster, shoot from different positions, shoot at reactive targets, etc.

Whenever I go to a formal range now, I feel very bored.

+1 to shooting alone

Wow a lot of replies. I feel fortunate compared to some and less than others :)

Outdoor: 45 minutes, $35 year; pistol 25 yard and rifle 100 yards.

Indoor: 30 minutes, $245 a year: 50 foot pistol and 25 yard rifle/pistol.

I'd love to shoot off my back porch like some here.

140 miles one way. 45,000 acres and the back stop is 12 miles away with probably a 1000 fuzzy targets between here and there.

They was digging dinosaurs outta that backstop before Custer was killed, and Butch and Sundance blew up the train at the left side of the bluff in this picture.
The RO is kind of a crusty old phart though.

My club is about a 20 minute drive. Pistol/rifle ranges at 25, 50, 100, 200 and 600yds.

Nice thing about the 600 range, only a handful of members are qualified to use- so once you get qualified there's usually not much activity on that line.

Downside- $450.00 a year membership plus work hours required.

My pistol range is 200 yards from the house. The rifle range is about 250 yds away. Since I am normally the only one shooting it can be a bit lonely, but I never have any safety concerns. It's also fun to shoot eggs, golf balls, balloons etc.
