How many AR mags is enough?

My minimum mag complement for each rifle is twelve (12). For platforms like the AR, where they tend to multiply in the safe while you're not looking, I'd suggest that fifty is a good start.

I would imagine that they would be quite useless if you don't have bullets for them.
True, until you sit on one, or run over it, or drop it off a cliff, or the feed lips crack. Then you'll wish you had extras. Heavens forbid that when you need more, you can't buy them because of silly capacity bans or the like.

Buy 'em now, and buy for the future.

Mags can break, so I've got a few. More for my rifles than for pistols. For two ARs, I have about 50 set aside, most still in wrap. For pistols, I have anywhere from 5 to 10 mags for each.

I have 3 ar's and 50mags with the magpull followers. only have 4 for my M&P40
probably should get a few more.

A buddy of mine who is soon going back to Iraq for trip #3 said he learned that you can never have enough mags. Since then he sent me a pic of a big black duffel bag full of loaded M-4 mags. Had to be 100 in their, he said that was what was on the floor of his humvee most days.

Used to have around 150, but I've since reduced that number to 130. I need to pick up some more. With AR mags as cheap as they are, why not buy em cheap and stack em deep.

Hmmm guess I am behind as well. I have a little over a thousand rounds of 223, and 2 30 round mags + 2 20 round mags. Maybe a few more 30's should be on my list.

hobgob, your mind is not right yet. You are thinking in limit imposing terms, as evidenced by your use of the word "enough". Stop thinking that way. Begin thinking in terms of "how many do I want", or "I don't have as many as I want, how do I get the number I want".

If you are not confident in the answer you gave yourself in question #1, then ask around, but ask it this way "How many do you have, and why" It is a question that solicits far more useful answers.

For AR mags, I stopped at 25. I only have one AR.

For AK mags I'm at 32 of various types/caps. But I have two AK's so that pile still has some growing to do.

Like others have said, don't think in terms of "enough" think in terms of "want" I want more, because I like to stack them all up and look at them. Then take them out and shoot them. I'm a nerd like that.

I have (16) 30-rounders, (2) 20-rounders, and (2) 5-rounders, for a total of (20) AR mags.

The 5-rounders are necessary to hunt legally in Oklahoma, where my best friend's family has a ranch.

I like to have at least eight 30s and two 20s. The short 20s come in handy, and my riflecase has four pockets for mags, 2 30s will fit in each pocket.

I have over 20 mags for my 5.56 AR, and plan on more. I may spend my bonus on this. You know, just in case...

For those of you that hoard mags, by a paintmarker and number them. Even if you dont hoard mags, number them anyway. Paintmarkers can be found at office supply stores, but a craft store will probably have a better selection.

I dont plan on numbering any more past ten, I'm just gonna use a different color paintmarker. I wish I would have though about that before...
