How many carry a knife along with their primary

If I walk out of my front door, whether it's for 2 minutes or 2 days, I have a pocket knife and a flashlight on me. The firearm comes along maybe 50% of the time, depending on the situation.

I have used my knife and flashlight A LOT more than I have used my CCW. You'd be surprised how many uses throughout the day and night you can find for a small flashlight.

Plus, a pocket knife with a smooth one-handed opening/closing mechanism makes a great distraction when you're bored. Benchmade's Axis lock seems to be the best for this purpose...

Almost 100% have a folder on me.. I say almost because I do loose them from time to time..

I always carry a box cutter and a locking folder. Locking folder is for one purpose and the box cutter is for everything else.

I've been carrying a knife since I was 11 years old. Added a one hand opening ~25 years ago and about 10 years ago I went to an assisted open knife and still carry a Swiss army. I always carry a knife weather or not I carry a gun.

Knife fighting isnt like in movies, both people end up getting cut. You cant defend against a prison style bum rush with a knife. Even professional martial artists will get hurt due to the shear savage and brutal nature of the attack. Now on the flip side, 2 unarmed attacked and you draw a knife. Thats going to make them second guess their attack, especially if they are worried about getting their face slashed up. Hell even a few nails between the fingers will make someone less confident and make them back away a bit, so that should hopefully give you enough room to make a bolt for it. I dont know about you but if I dont have to I'm not gonna stick around and fight it out, especially if there are more of them than me.

My EDC. I've carried a knife since I was pretty young, probably 10 or so. I don't really think of the knife as a weapon, its more of a tool. I use it constantly to open packages, letters, cut rope/string, cut coupons for the wife, etc. I like the half serrated blade for cutting through rope and possibly a seatbelt in case of emergency.

I actually carry a knife more often than I do a gun. I travel all over the country for work, with always a chance of being sent to one of the coastal police states, or to our charming neighbor to the north. Even when I'm just moving among the free states, so many of the plants I visit prohibit the possession of firearms on their property that trying to carry within the letter of the law(s) is ridiculously difficult. So firearm carry is really only when I'm off duty and on my own time.

I do EDC a small folder on a pocket clip, though. Can't really say I regard it as a weapon, or a replacement for a handgun, though. Just a tool for cutting rope, straps, boxes, opening blister packs, peeling apples, and starting oranges. You know, knife stuff. If the situation warranted it, though, would I grab it? Sure, if I couldn't reach the 5 D-cell Maglite that's usually handy.

Actually no I dont. At least not every day. I do when I put my jeans on but dont when I wear slacks. I dont really know why I do that. In other words, I dont have one during the week but I do on the weekends. For no good reason other than habit. I should though.

Usually a three inch pen or peanut and lately a carbon Opinel 12 in a sheath. Its fun to carry a giant knife just because I can.

Likewise, I have carried a knife since age 8. My grandpa gave me my first pocket knife at age 5, and he would take me hiking, and show me how to use the knife. Today's EDC is an inexpensive one that cost $10 (I hate it when I lose expensive knives).

I'm in the "tool camp" here, always having on my belt two knives, a Leatherman Skeletool and a Swiss Army Cybertool 41. Most of the time, more lethal knives are close by, but I'm not one to use a knife where a gun will do the job.

you mean there are people who *don't* EDC, at the least, a small folder?

Not only do I have a knife in the pocket any time I have pants on, I can honestly say that I probably carry a knife more often than I wear pants*.


*We live outside of town. During the summer months, If I'm covered with ticks/grime/sawdust/grass clippings etc I'll leave boots and pants on the porch and then come into the house to shower. I normally empty my pockets and bring the knife (and probably pliers and belt) into the house rather than leave it on the porch.

I carry a CRKT M16-10 every day (even in dress slacks) and 2 multi-tools, 1 on my belt, 1 in the pocket (Leatherman Super Tool 300 and a Squirt).
They are tools, that could be used for self defense, if needed.
I've carried most of my life like others here.
I thought it was part of my Man Card ???

In my case... you ever buy a new wallet and realize you've got extra pockets or flaps in it that you don't have anything to put in? I have that happen a lot.

I invariably try to fill every last empty slot with a knife of some sort. With varying degrees of success.

I always carry some sort of folder on me, plus one at my desk (at work) and a fixed blade in the car. For weekday EDC, I have a Kershaw Vapor III, as it is extremely thin and light, but despite having a long blade still looks like a tool more than a weapon. If I'm going out and want something specifically for defensive carry where a gun isn't permitted or practical, it's usually a Kershaw RJI . . . or a cheap M-Tech that I can lose and not get too upset about.

Part of the problem is that, in Illinois, your blade length is as restricted as are our gun rights. I'm not sure, but I believe the max length is 3" or 3.5".
I carry a 3-blade pocket folder every day. Longest blade is about 2.75 useable length (3" from hinge to point).

I carry anywhere I'm allowed legally. When carrying a gun (which is usually) I carry on my weak side.

I have had some kind of a knife on me since I was about ten years old. It is intended as a tool not a weapon. On the other hand I have discovered the assisted opening knives and they could be used as either. If nothing else they are fun to play with.

If you watch NCIS you know Gibbs rule 9 - never go anywhere without a knife! I've carried as long as I can remember and I'm 65. It's like change in your pockets. I have it with me always just like my concealed carry.

If I have a pair of pants/shorts on, there's knife in them. That said, I'd echo what a few other folks have already stated, I don't carry knives in preparation for having to shank someone in self defense, my knives are primarily tools. Sure, they could be pushed into defensive service, but 99.999999999% of their actual use is going to be daily opening, cutting and trimming.

Most of the time I cycle between a Delica, Mini-Griptilian and a Carbon Fiber Sage. I've got a thing for high quality, light knives around the 3 inch mark (especially Spydercos).

Funny quick story, last year my company went to Quantico for training and they arranged it for us to visit the Marine Corp history museum on the last week. Before we all got in some Ssgt came from inside and told us knifes arnt allowed and they'll collect any knifes we're carrying right now and it'll be returned to us by end of the trip. Well they ended up having to bring out 2 water buckets because every one of my Marines in my unit was carrying some sort of folded blade, some were carrying multiple ones including big K-bar/Cold steel type fixed blades. The guys collecting knifes shook his head and rolled his eyes as he was getting finished : " you know how I know you guys are infantry? Bunch of shanker wannabes, what is this, a handaxe? "
