I do pretty good with consolidation. Hope I can remember them all.

Here are the ones I shoot.

22 LR, Long, & Short
22 WMR
.223
30-30 (Selling that one soon)
30-06
35 Rem
38 Spl
44 Mag
444 Marlin
450 Bushmaster

The ones I don’t shoot or haven’t in a long time. These are not safe queens so much as guns I just like but don’t shoot.

280 Remington (Very rare 760 Carbine)
.303 British (Jungle Carbine)

I don’t have doubles of any cartridge but 22 right now. (Smith 17 and Ruger Mk II)

Usually I have several 22 mags but I have been horse trading again lately.

.17’s to 50 BMG for metallic and .410 to 10 scatter guns. I make it a point to not know specific numbers, so I don’t ever lie to Mrs, Morris. A little trick I learned from her when it comes to shoes and purses. She’s a smart woman.

OP - whether planned or coincidence, only five cartridges is good planning or good discipline.

I, on the other hand, have five different cartridges in 30 cal alone :uhoh:

Well, I hope to do some consolidation and rationalization, but as it stands today:
22 LR
22WMR
32 ACP
32 H&R magnum
327 Federal magnum
380
38 Sp
9mm
357 magnum
45 LC
45 ACP

410
12 Ga.

I could probably live without the 45’s, 32 ACP, and maybe the 9mm

More than I'd planned on.

I could probably get by with 4 or 5 just fine. I love .22LR and I sort of consider .38/.357 as virtually a single chambering in a way. Well, at least on the .357 side I guess...

Anyway, a couple have crept into the mix just from sheer ubiquity and economics. There is some overlap. If you collect long enough, you'll add along the way. I go out of my way to try and keep the number down for all the same reasons most people do.

I have much more variety of calibers/chamberings in handguns vs rifles, but that's because I feel that there's enough of a difference in regard to performance and accuracy vs rifles. For rifles, I stick to common popular calibers because they do all I need and at an extremely low cost. I don't need a .22-250, 243, 6 or 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, .300 BLK, .35 Whelen, .458, etc. Not saying those aren't any good, I just have no use for them.

The only calibers I'm thinking of adding are 10mm for a handgun and in the future a .350 Legend AR upper. I don't live in anywhere near the Great Lakes, where straight wall rifles are the only hunting rifles you can use, but the .350 appears to be a very easy to reload cartridge that uses .357 Magnum bullets. Can't ask for much more from a semi auto rifle.

EDIT: Upon further thought, when I look at the list, I could easily live without the .22 Magnum revolvers, .25 ACP, .32 S&W Long top break, .410 Judge, and Tokarev, but these are all guns I got either for the guns themselves or to try something different.

Something like the .22 Mag out of a revolver... I shoot it and after shooting, I would take a .32 revolver over it every day. The only reason I have the .22 Mags is because they're all single action revolvers with a .22 LR cylinder.

I'd rather have a .22 LR semi auto than a .25. Can shoot it much more for less.

If there were more guns and ammo options for .32 ACP, I would rather have that over .380, but until the day comes when someone besides just Kel Tec makes a polymer .32 ACP, I'm gonna keep my .380 LCP's.

I came in at 24 different cartridges. I always think I shoot a bunch of different ones, then one of these threads comes up. Always good for a chuckle. I think I'm about good where I'm at. If I add another one it will most likely be a 327 fed/ 32 H&R mag.

What is your 8.15x46R chambered in? A Mauser Gewehr 98? Mine is and my FIL gave it to me not knowing what it was chambered in. It had been in his family for some time. I am looking for ammo for it. Any suggestions?

I actually reload for mine, don't shoot it much though:

Antique Schuetzen rifle based on a Martini action that my FIL gave me. My wife managed to bring it back through customs when returning from visiting him in Austria.

For factory ammo and reloading materials try Buffalo Arms (make sure you're sitting down before hitting link):
