This is a topic that has always interested me. If you read the forums, you'd think folks are buying a gun a month or more. That can't be normal, or is it?

So how many do you buy in a typical year? How many do you sell?

For me, for the last few years I have purchased about 5 to 7 guns per year. Most of them have been 22 rifles, but my love has always been well made revolvers.

What say you?

I go through cycles myself from buying none to buying as many as 10-12. Not looking for anyone to reveal their secrets, which is why I said "typical year". So it could be this year or say in the last 5 years or if you like 35 years. If I looked at the last 20 years, the number per year is generally lower than the last couple.

well, TYPICALLY the answer is a big fat goose egg

THIS year, like 4 or 5, roughly doubling my existing collection of inherited guns.

I bought a shotgun on my 12th birthday, then a handgun around 22. That was it until this year (about 10 years later), 3 handguns so far. I for see at least 2 more purchases before years end as well...

I'm done selling guns from my personal stash. No one wants to pay the prices I'm willing to sell at. A friend wants my Ruger P90 that I got for $250, and he knows I got it at that price, and I'm not looking to sell, he pesters me every so often and I always tell him $400 and he gives me some flak about how he can get it cheaper and I tell him to go look there, at the local gunshop it will run over $500 out the door.

The past two years have been absolutely insane as far as gun buying has gone, I've been quite successful in the stock market day trading, started a small landscaping business that grew that i sold, that I restarted after the buyer ruined it(was a nice four grand a couple months off from running it), and became an NRA pistol Instructor and make a little over a grand each month. And i had considerable stashes of money before hand.

Also I know folks who don't like selling their guns to gunshops,(because they know they are going to get raked over the coals, i.e. buddy bought a Ruger P345 for over $500 went back two months later needing to sell it desperately andthey only offered him $125, I gave him $200 and forever it will be mine short of starving or losing my house). I've gotten ARs, Taurus PT92, just an insanely large sum.

I've sold a few through my FFL guy(FFL transfers) as I won't sell privately, buy sure, sell no. Mostl Semi-auto Smiths. And then I have inherited a large sum, and have 'worked' in exchange for some along with getting paid in cash.

Safe to say I'm done buying for awhile(yeah I keep telling myself that and last time I did I got a Bersa 9mm Ultra Compact for $260). I've been offered other guns since at not bad but not great deals. I know the gunshops will pay considerably less, you don't know who you are selling to at the gunshows, and so I've set my standards.

Once I get my FFL a year or two from now I'll be sure to put considerable numbers of them up on gunbroker.com. I've got 6 model 19s, I can only bring myself to shoot one of them, I worked for an exchange rate of $300 per gun and I'll put those up for auction. I'll put some of the hunting rifles up in .243, Norinco pistols in 9mm I can't easily convert to 9x23, a nickel plated Star SA 9mm, amongst other guns I consdier too redundant to my collection or have calibers I don't have stashes of ammo for or I don't want to get large stashes of ammo for. I won't FFL transfer to my students from my personal stash once I have my FFL to avoid liabilities and headaches, but I'll only charge 10% above wholeseller with 7% sales tax and shipping, and I'll tell you what, that is some savings.

None for twenty years. About 25 in the last three years. Six since July of this year. It's about to taper off since I can't think of anything else I want or need.

Since moving to Vegas from California I have really gone nuts buying. I'm currently avereraging about 8-9 a year right now. On occassion I will get 2-3 at one time. AS far as selling I have decided that I am no longer going to part with any of the guns that I own. My goal is to own over 100 guns. I'm getting closer since my latest purchase put me at 78.:D

I've bought 35 firearms this calendar year so far, and sold or traded away 21 that I already had. Last year it was 20 in and 9 out for the whole year, 43 in and 25 out the year before that. (Large, ongoing platform/caliber consolidation effort the past few years.)

But I am anything but "typical" when it comes to firearms... :uhoh:

Too many  and I'm through for the year. I think. Maybe. Ah hell, who am I kidding. :uhoh:

Geez- I haven't kept up with my yearly purchase's; as some year's were
more plentiful than other's~! :scrutiny:

FWIW, from Sept. of '04 thru May of '09, life was very good. Times have
been a little tough lately; but one of these days, I will be back on track~!

I average 12 a year but this year, double that. :D Also about a safe a year average. I will not go into the area of reloading.:what: Lets say same as half a dozen AR type evil guns.
