I was curious as to how much shooting I actually did in a year, so I kept track.

I had a busy and expensive year between a major career hurdle being conquered, 250 hours of overtime, buying a house, buying windows, moving, and taking over supervision of six employees. As a result I did not get to shoot anywhere near as much as I wanted to.

I only sent 2150 rounds down range, which I would consider barely adequate to even maintain my shooting skills. I'm guessing in a normal year I'm closer to 3500, which is still nothing special. 99.9% of my shooting was with handguns, and about 60% was center fire.

Time to start reloading.

How many did you shoot? Just curious.

Well, it sounds like you had a good year anyway.
I shoot on average about 6-7 thousand centerfire rifle bullets at pdogs and working up loads. Maybe 2000 rimfire rounds, because I didn't want to use my stash up. Not many centerfire pistol either, as powder was unavailable around here, and I wanted to keep my inventory as full as possible. A guy from work just bought a pistol and I am taking him out tomorrow to try it out. I will pop some caps, regardless of the inventory!

between matches....training......range time fun.....R&D and Testing.......it has to be close to 100K rounds.

Nice! R&D? You work as a designer or tester?

haha kind of, its practically my second job....me and some buddies do all our own gunsmithing on our match rifles.....sometimes the work is pretty vanilla....other times we are doing work which is completely new. a lot of work on various chamberings, barrel profiles, barrel tuning, action tuning, trigger tuning, stock configurations, so on and so on.

and then we are constantly evaluating testing methods and testing fixtures.

and then there is ammo and lot testing.

burns up a lot of ammo fast.

The only shooting I did this year was between late August and the end of the year, but I still managed to go through about 1000 rounds.

Seriously, does anyone actually count this stuff? I wouldn't even know the ball park much less an actual number.

Not nearly enough. Not. Even. Close.

From January through November I probably fired ~1,000 rounds.

But I'm changing that. In the last 4-5 weeks I've fired >1,000 rounds.

Numbers above are all centerfire.

I never used to count anything, but then I would always end up seriously wondering how many I had fired, or how many were through various firearms. A few years ago I started counting approximates fired through each of my new firearms.

I have my brass sorted in ziploc bags of 100, and I always manage to leave the range with a few more than I fired. That's how I get my ballpark number.

What a coincidence. i just calculated the amount of rounds that I shot this year. First off, before about 3 months ago I hadn't shot a gun in 31 1/2 years. A little less than 3 months ago I decided to get me a 22 and enjoy some target shooting. Since then I have shot about 600 rounds of 22, nothing else. 400 of them were factory loads and 200 were reloads. In the past couple of weeks I have purchased a 22 revolver and a Norinco 213, 9mm. Looking forward to blasting away another 600 or more rounds next year.

What "22" are you talking about, exactly?

Light year for me, too. Worked a lot, mostly 12 hour days six days a week. Soaked up a lot of my "extra" time.

Days i did get out, I shot AR and 1911 almost exclusively. Probably 1,000 rounds of each. Little to no .22, very little .308 and exactly 10 rounds of 00 12 gauge.

About 7-8K 9mm and about 3-4K .380. I practice more with the .380 but shoot more 9mm in competitions. Probably shot over 1000 .45

Hmmm.. Just a guess but I'm thinking around 10,000 rounds fired. Maybe 5,000 of those were 22lr and the remainder comprised of center fire rifle, pistol and shotgun.
With all that shooting I should be a better shot than I am.

Not man, ~1,000.....lots of load development with 357mag and 44mag, DA training with M29 Mountain. Pistol, 1911s in 38Super and 10mm.

N105, 200gr XTP @1600fps = amazing :)

As a supply chain guy professionally, and shooting guns in 10+ calibers, I have a running database of my inventory and remove ammo from inventory when shot.

So yes, I count.
