At least 3k per year out of my 300blk pistol. No concern on barrel life considering 99.75% of what I shoot is 230gr powder coated soft lead bullets at ~1125fps.

I've had my first AR about 4 months now and I've put 10 rounds through it so far. That was just enough to sight it in this summer while swatting deer flies. Hopefully more this winter!
The last 2 weeks we've had a bumper crop of horseflies. For those not in the know, horseflies are living proof deer flies mate with buffalo.

^Build a fire... gets rid of everything but the wasps, over on my end.

Anyway, I fire about 3-5k per year through whatever carbine I'm most interested in. For a few years, it was between a couple of AK's. This year has been mostly about the BCM and "streamlining" training time.

I wouldn't necessarily think 5k was a benchmark for a new barrel. The ammo shot, the WAY it was shot, etc all come into play when barrel life is considered, and many people have reportedly gone 20k plus without an appreciable degradation of accuracy.....so....why would you suggest replacing 4x sooner than that?

The X-ring is Service Match is 1.35" at 100yds and slightly less than MOA at all other ranges. An E-Silhouette or IPSC target is around 19" x 40". A barrel that is "shot out" for Service Match purposes will still outshoot most brand new generic blaster barrels.

So barrel life is in part a function of your accuracy requirements. The barrels going 20,000 rounds are generally meeting the military requirement (not more than 4 MOA @ 300m). That kind of accuracy won't get you far in High Power shooting.

Between practice and matches I'm shooting about 1000 rounds a year.

But usually not through a AR.

I picked 1 to 2k per year but will say it may not always be through the same AR as I have more than 1.

I try to do a min of 100 to 200 rounds a month and some times more if possible. I was doing 300 to 500 a month but the last few years’ ammo has not been cheap and not always available so we had to cut back.

Probably 50 rds through the AR-15 this year.... In the past 4 months though I've put over 300 .270 Win rds and around 200 .30-06 rds down range. As much as I've tried to get excited about my AR's I just enjoy bolt guns so much more.

I'm just the opposite, to me the AR is fun, fun, fun! I'm on track to end this month with 500 rounds downrange....I need to slow down some, burning through my ammo, lol.

I probably shoot 1000-2000 rounds total in the sum of all the AR-15s that I own.

Presently, I work mostly with long barrel, heavy varmint versions of the AR or 300 BLK (supersonic) AR-15s.

The most recent project has been a 22x6.8 AR-15.

I voted in the under 1000 bracket. I'm not a high volume shooter and I'm still playing with different bullets. I load a few and see how they shoot...then load some more to see if things go the "gooder-er or worser-er". Tend to not rack up high numbers shooting like that so its obvious I'm not going to hit high round count. My wife even asked me where I'm going with all this. My answer...just a few extra range trips. :D

less than 1000. I'm finding it hard to schedule time around my work schedule to get to the range. I'm also not completely comfortable with my current ammo stockpile. Last few range sessions have turned from Buy Two, Shoot One to Buy One, Shoot Two.

Sheesh I bet I'm inside of 50. Really should get it more exercise esp with the addition of a better stock and Timney trigger in the last 6 mos. just been prioritizing handguns since I started reloading. Maybe I'll get it out this week.... A guy can hope...

I haven't shot my Ar in a couple of years now. My range time is eaten up with my handguns. That said, a new indoor range just opened in town that alows long arms. Hopefully I can get a lane this winter and get back into the swing of things with the ol' poodle shooter.

I really do prefer the Ar over any other rifle. The slippery slope is that I have a customer who machines them. Might be time to horse trade for a .300 blk upper if I start getting back into shooting.

I went from 1000-2000 to 1000 ish after several seasons and working on my accuracy and building a purpose built rifle for tactical rifle matches.

If I made every match I'd still be over 1000, but this season has been a rough one.

Definitely more seasons over a grand than under.

My duty gun gets about 1000 rounds a year through it. My personal ones get about 500-1000 a year. Some years more some years less, but that's about average.

My problem lies not in how many rounds i put through an AR but how many rounds did i put through twenty three of my AR's. Of the many thousands of rounds i shoot the ammo is dispursed through out the pile of rifles, however, there are a select group of rifles that seem to make every shooting day. My Sport and Colt 6720 are always there as are a few of my Aero Precision builds, so some are regular eaters and others see fewer rounds but still serve a special place in the rack. Usually each week three or four hundred rounds of ammo make their way through my rifles....ya gotta' reload when shooting like that.

50-100 a year. I now shoot a CZ carbine so I don't plow through so much a session.

I have one of the early Sports. No issues in five years.
