How old is your scope?

I have 3 old Bausch & Lomb Balvar scopes. They're fine.

Replacing scopes because they are cheaper now doesn't make any sense. The one you bought decades ago is still cheaper than buying another.

Also have a few Weavers from the late 60's. Now many Leupold and some Nikon Prostaffs on Thompson Center Condender Carbine barrels.

The latest is a Leupold Vx-3 2.5 to 8 x 36mm. This is my new favorite and resides on a Remington BDL .280 Rem.

I have a custom Mauser 22 trainer that wears a Weaver K 2 1/2. At least 50 years old. The latest is a Bushnell Legend Ultra HD. Excellent scope for the money. I have Tascos, Leupolds, Nikons, Weavers and Bushnells, but the new Ultra HD has really impressed me. There will be a 4X14 in the mail next week.

I'm still using the J.P. Unertle scope that's on my 1946 model 70. I don't have any reason to change it out. It works fine.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned and stubborn towards fixing things that aren't broken, and to cheap to upgrade when I don't have to.

Oh well

I was shooting two Leupold's side by side the other day, one from the 70's the other less then 10 years old. Older VXII verses newer VXIII

They're different, but it's tough to say if one is better. The 1970's scope certainly holds it's own...quite well. I almost let it go a few times when selling rifles and now I'm so glad I didn't.

Which one?

Same here.......I have scopes that are 40 years old and one less than a year. I have scopes that run the gablit from a cheapo Tasco to Leupolds. Most have served me well or I move on. I've had a entry level Tasco World Class on my M1917 Eddystone since the seventies. Thousands of shots and too many deer to count. Still shoots better than I. It cost me twice as much as the gun.....$50.

Vari-X III 29 years old. Sighted in dead on at 100 then, went to Colorado elk hunting 2 years ago dialed 8 clicks up while I was out there. When I got home dialed 8 clicks down. That is the only time mine has been touched. Saw many a deer and varmints fall to that scope and 270 Stainless Stalker

Leupold revamed their entire line of scopes starting in Jan. 2011. The difference is dramatic. I have a 2011 VX-2 that is much clearer and better than my 2006 VX-3 and just as good as my Zeiss scopes.
