How to explain the appeal of this hobby of ours?!?

It can be tough to explain to some people. My usual response is "I enjoy the shooting sports and shooting is funnto me." Nothing profound there. What I've found though is that if a person has an entrenched bias towards firearms - read liberal - they have already made up their minds about me. In other words I'm nothing more than a wingnut to them.

Among other serious problems my love of guns cost me my marriage.

What I never think about, and seldom read/hear about, is the amount of increased violent (sometimes fatal) crime which began when many "low-lifes" left New Orleans or Gulfport/Biloxi etc for other cities, such as Baton Rouge, Jackson, Meridian MS and maybe several others.

Sure, this is only speculative, but if the California economy one day becomes much more similar to the situation in Greece, and the downward spiral accelerates beyond any forecast trend, will many of the CA dregs stay in CA, or move on to greener economic pastures in Reno, Las Vegas, Phoenix etc?
