Effectively dead. It's been in committee since 19 March and will die there. It is not scheduled for hearings or a vote. Since HR 2640 has passed chances are mighty slim that any other gun bills of any type will come out of any committee.

It won't go to "actually dead" until the end of the 110th Congress at the end of this year. Have no fear, it'll start all over again NEXT year with the 111th Congress. And, statistically with a Democrat president in the White House. And BOTH of the leading Democrat candidates have said they support banning "assault weapons."
