I'm big, dumb, fight dirty, and like hurting people who threaten me.
If my family members were with me, a weapon would come into play real quick- unfortunately my state doesn't allow concealed carry, so I'd have to settle for my Spiderco or the tire iron in the bed of my pickup if I'm near it.

The best thing to do in the situation is draw with full intent to fire if the aggressor doesn't immediately make a retreat.

If you find yourself in hand-to-hand combat there is a high probability that you will be injured, possibly quite seriously if not fatally. You never know if your attacker has a concealed weapon, is trained in H2H combat, or is completely insane. Very easily, you can be bitten, have an eye gouged, have a wrist broken, etc... The purpose of a firearm as defense is to let you defend yourself at a safe distance. Use it. Don't let you attacker close on you.

One problem with the unarmed attacker is this:
Is he stark naked and turning all the way around so that you KNOW he is unarmed?
If, he MIGHT be armed after all!
Just how would you know for sure???

this is the problem. if you draw and kill the man then you are going to have one hell of a time proving your case in court. all of you are gun nuts and some of you have already doubted weather a gun should be used in this situation, so what do you think a anti jury is going to do to you. this is a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. you should never never never let someone fight you when you have a weapon on you. the risk of him getting a hold of it or it falling out and someone else grabbing it is just too great. you would feel pretty ????y up in heven/hell if you were killed with your own weapon and it wasn't empty

The law does not require you to accept a beating.

The key is threat to yourself or another of death, OR GREAT BODILY HARM, and a perpetrator having the means, proximity to do that, having put you in jeapardy of same.

The other thing to keep in mind is that most armed people are religiously nonconfrontational over stupid stuff, and therefore a lot less likely to get into such a situation in the first place.

A person who chases an armed man into a corner is a fool. A man who chases somebody he didn't know was armed into a corner is a predator.

The key is to do everything you can to keep yourself out of this situation.
The occasion that this scenario happens most is at bars or drinking parties.
In Ark you can't be around alcohol while carrying. If you want to go to a bar keep your weapon at home. If you are confronted on the street, at a store, or some other public place then you know the intentions of the threat are at its worst. Don't get cornered. Draw when you have to and stop the threat.

I'd draw because nothing is certain in a fight. I know how to fight, but there's no sense in taking a stupid risk. I've seen my fair share of big guys get knock out with one punch from a little guy, so I'd draw even if he's smaller than me (highly unlikely he will be though). If you choose to stand and fight remember that if anything goes wrong not only will you at least suffer an injury, but you could be arming a criminal as well.

I say you need to draw for the following reasons (most of which have been pointed out already).

1. There's no way to be sure that he is unarmed.

2. Even if he is, he can still do great bodily harm. If you don't think someone can kill you with their hands and feet, you need to wake up and smell the coffee.

3. Size and strength, while relevant, have less to do with who wins the fight than most people think. Knowledge, experience, speed, and tolerance for pain most often are the keys to who comes out on top. My training has shown me that you cannot judge how good of a fighter a person is by their looks.

4. Even if you win, you are still going to get hurt. Unless you are a badass extraordinaire, you are going to get punched, kicked, stomped, scratched, bitten, and/ or gouged. You can also get hurt falling and defending yourself. Plus, unless you have some training, you may not even know how to punch correctly so that you don't break your hand.

5. Almost all fights end up on the ground. Again, unless you a trained in ground fighting, the chances of a favorable outcome are not good. At this point it is doubtful that you would even be able to draw you weapon.

6. If your attacker gets a hold of your weapon while you are struggling with him, he's probably going to use it on you, even if he only uses it for a club.

That's just my $.02 worth.

I'd say draw, but it's a gray area for me, and comes down to desparity of force.

I'm going on the assumption (from the original poster) that the BG is DEFINITELY unarmed.

If it's someone who I could physically defend myself against by hand, I'm going to be punching and kicking the SOB until he's on the ground, with the BG crying like the little fat kid who just lost his ice cream cone. :D

If there's any possibly however that the BG could put me in a hospital, or worse, a morgue, then I'm drawing and disparity of force will be my main point of legal defense. If he doesn't desist and go back where he came from, then he's getting "thumped" the GO-BANG! way! :uhoh:

A kid I used to work with was rendered braindead by his head hitting the curb after being punched.

Yeah, you can be beaten to death by someone who is "unarmed".
