I went to Gander Mt today. They had the spurred-hammer Canadian Mountie version of the 4 in. Ruger gp100 for $278, so I picked one up.
They also had a 4 in. Ruger Blackhawk .357 single action for $270. As I've always wanted an SA, I put that puppy in layaway.

I'll be posting the gp100 later this week. I'm on 12 hour night shifts until Wed. I'll get it posted sometime then. I'll post pics of the Blackhawk when I get it out of layaway.

Here is the Canadian gp100 I picked up, along with another gp100 and sp101 that I just picked up this afternoon. I'll post the Blackhawk when I get it out of layaway.

I traded two S&Ws today for the Rugers. A 686-6 and a 649-5.

Personally I feel I got the better deal today.

I found an old article on the net specifically listing Ruger, along with Beretta, Browning, Glock and Taurus as the 5 companies that refused to sign the Clinton deal that S&W signed. When I got to thinking about that, I decided to lose both of my post-deal Smiths for Rugers. I kept my two old pre-deal Smiths.
Interestingly enough, the owner of the gun shop I bought my Rugers from used to work at S&W. He said they tested a Colt Python, S&W (he did not list the model), and a gp100 with the heaviest .357 loads they could find. The Colt was the first to blow up. The S&W blew up also. The Ruger however never did. They could not get it to fall apart, no matter how heavy a load they tried. That sold me on Rugers.

And until S&W officially makes a statement renouncing that deal, I won't own any post-deal S&Ws ever again.
