I don't think I will be using CCI Blazer anymore.

Was shooting my CZ75b at the range today and had a pucker factor. One of the mags had three CCI Blazer aluminum rounds I had left from a few boxes I bought a few years ago so I loaded on top of 13 Win white box.

When I went into the proccess of unloading that mag at the range the first two CCI went off fine but on the thrid one a flash 8 inches long came out the ejection port and the right side of my face got peppered real good with powder. After the *** look on my face went away I dumped the mag and took the live round out of the chamber and inspected the gun but it looked fine. Then I found the empty case on the floor I found the problem. The case was split from neck to rim and there was a chunk of it missing. I took the gun apart and search the area around my shooting lane but never found the chunk. The CZ still functioned for the rest of the day but I had a real bad flinch after that.

Anybody ever had this happen to you?

Oh yeh, Thank God for shooting glasses.

I've never had that happen in 5,000+ rounds of 9mm Blazer that have been run through a Kahr K9, and three Browning Hi Powers.

I love the stuff- cheap, reliable & cheap :D

It sounds like the cartridge ignited before it was fully chambered. If that happened it would certainly split the case.

I haven't, either. You need to tell the company and send them that shell and box, if you have them. They really should know about it.

Hmm interesting post... I just bought some Blazer 115 gr. on sale for $7.49 -50
Guess I will find out how it does :)

It's not my favorite (I'll spend a little more to get the reloadable Blazer Brass), but I've never had a problem with aluminum Blazer.

If fire came out of the ejection port, and the head/primer of the case were intact, then it is a gun problem, and not a bullet problem. The firing pin struck the primer before the round was in battery.

Never had any catastrophic issues with Blazer.

My CZ75B doesn't like the aluminum cased stuff though. I get a malfunction every box or so when using it.

Use Blazer by the case, never had a problem. Even at 99.99% perfect when you make a billion rounds a month a bad one can slip by. I've had a couple cases split over the years, from a couple different companies. Sounds like that may be what happened to you. If you shoot enough you will find a bad apple once in a while.

The only problem I've heard more than once is CZ's generically don't like the aluminum ammo. I had a P01 and it worked fine. I shoot a lot of this stuff in 9mm, .40, and .45 and have never had problems...

Is that by Academy by chance? If so, is it brass or aluminum? It would save me a 75 mile rd trip if I knew...The ad doesn't distinguish..Thanks..

I would like to know also where he got them on sale. 9.99 is Academey's current price.

thousands of rounds through beretta, glock, m&p, taurus - not a single problem - I shoot the brass though, not the aluminum but I like the stuff - great practice ammo at a great price.

That was my first thought also when I read he OP post.

If the gun was out of battery and gun fired the unsupported case could have ruptured. Also by being slighly out of battery the slide would recoil early. The combination would dump the propellant out the ejection port.

This could be a mechanical problem or more commonly it could be a problem with fouling in the chamber.

If chamber gets dirty each round pack the carbon forward eventually it can build up at the front end of chamber. The round is slightly out of battery. A handgun shouldn't fire if it is out of battery but with any mechanical device there are margins.
Any less carbon and weapon would be in battery. Any more and it wouldn't fire (too far out of battery). Looks like you found the right amount.

How clean was the gun?
How many rounds since you last cleaned the chamber?
How many rounds did you fire today?

I have never had an issue with Blazer Brass, in 9mm, .40 and .45. Always inspect your ammo before loading, if you are unsure, just let it be until you can decide.

As for Blazer being underpowered, with FMJ range ammo, its fine with me since I'm more concerned with accuracy of aim for the most part so a few percent less power is not going to make much difference for me. Besides, with less recoil, it might just make range time more fun and worthwhile. :)

It is at Academy, and it is aluminum cased.

As for Blazer being underpowered,
And at that, I don't think blazer is under powered. At least in 9mm it seems fairly well loaded for a budget round. I suppose a chrono is needed.

My bet is "out battery". Never had an issue ever with cci, ammo, aluminum or brass..
