Greetings,

While I've never hated Glocks, I can't say that I've been overwhelmed with them either. I was always a SigP226/228 fan, along with the Beretta 92FS and the USP45F. I had a G22 3rd gen that I picked up a while back and couldn't shoot it worth a damn. Also, the wife really didn't like the gun especially, after I had an AD with it in the apartment. Luckily nothing bad happened as a result of that. A year and a half ago, I picked up a used G19 2nd gen. I always had a thing for that pistol. Anyway, when dry firing it, as well as when shooting it at the range, I could never get it to group like the USP or Sigs, etc. Then one day about a month ago, it all came together. Something changed in the way I shoot the pistol (right hand thumb now points up instead of forward) and I can now hold it without moving the sights when shooting it. My favorite in my arsenal is the USP. I can shoot really well with it, and I love the recoil reduction, mag release, everything about it. After that I have to say the Glock is now the runner up. I never ever thought I would like a Glock over a Sig or Beretta. Repeat shots are really easy to make, and the pistol is in the Tonka toy category of "it can take it". This could very well be an ultimate pistol. Accuracy is also much better than I first gave it credit for. Now that I know how to shoot it, that is.

Must be tough. For me, it's nice knowing that whenever I'm out of the 10-ring, it's the gun.

[/Sarcasm] Had to pay some homage to the "tactical masters."

rauchman,

I was the same way. I always favored Sigs until I bought my first Glock. For some reason I shoot much better with Glocks. I still like my Sigs, but the Glocks spend more time away from the safe.

I use the high-thumb 1911 style hold with my Glock now, and my accuracy is much better. The down side is that the slide often fails to lock back during USPSA events, which can be a PITA.

Although I like 1911s a lot, and have 5 personal ones which are finally reliable, I conclude that they are too much trouble to get reliable. If I were to start over, I would not buy 1911s, but Glocks and my Kahr P9.

It looks as if I too have joined the dark side. I just bought a Glock 17, haven't shot it yet, but it feels good in my hands, not like a Sig, but still good. I guess I can A/B it with my 229 to see which is more accurate.

I know what you mean.

After trying all the flavors of the month I always came back to my Glock 19. My Glock shares carry duty with my Kahr K9 depending on whether or not I am dressed in business casual. But at all other times and especially during tactical pistol classes and such its the Glock hands down! Its as though I can't miss with it.

Happy shooting.

I know... I didn't care for them either, till I traded for the 17 I have now... shot a golf ball sized group the first time out. My little girl says, "Gosh, Daddy, you'd think that thing was your brother or somethin'... it's always with you." :D

I never cared for Glocks either (always a 1911 fan) until I got a G19 in a trade recently . This past weekend took my son and his wife shooting and had a few revolvers for her to try (she's a new shooter) but I was really surprised when she asked to shoot the Glock and did exceptionally well with it , better than the 38spl revolvers .

You have to give the design credit for simplicity of parts, too. I bought one in spite of the fact that it was a <held breath> Glock because I really wanted a 10mm. I found I really liked the pistol and its design.

Time has proven that especially the Glock 17s and 19s are damn durable and tough with hardly any parts failures. You can literally abuse and neglect them and they continue to work. I love custom 1911s, but I think every shooter should own at least one of the aforesaid Glock models.

I've been shooting Glocks for a dozen years and owned my own for 5 years now. I didn't do good with them at first coming from the 1911, then I stopped trying to shoot the Glock like a target gun (take up slack, breath, squeeze) and shot it like my .357, (one smooth trigger squeeze) and all of a sudden I hit everywhere I wanted to. :)

It only took me a year to figure it out (didn't have my own Glock to practice with all the time then).

My G30 is my daily carry gun. :neener:

Yeah, there's really nothing like it when all your time & effort come together & you reach nirvana while shooting. I tend to think of it more as a guilty pleasure ;)
