I got a new .22LR from Bergara ... the BXR001 and it sure shoots great.

USPS finally got around to delivering the Kidd two-stage trigger that I'd ordered. The first thing I noticed was the overall quality of the Kidd trigger. The second thing was the significantly heavier hammer spring. I sure hope that standard velocity ammo and even subsonic ammo will cycle the bolt. I'd estimate the Kidd hammer spring to be about four times heavier than the Bergara hammer spring. The difference when cocking the action is very noticeable and now I'm wondering if it acts like a delayed blow back. The first stage take up feels like it has two stages, but it stops nicely at the second stage with an excellent break of about 1lb. There's no risk of pulling all the way through the first and second stages. I think this trigger will do wonders for accuracy and precision. I plan on doing some shooting over the next couple of days so will report back.

I swapped out the Leupold Mark 4 for the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50mm shown below. It's a decent FF scope with a functional and clear reticle.

With a cost of 500 dollars it’s an overpriced 10/22, with about the same accuracy.

I don't agree re being overpriced and I don't have any point of reference for out of the box 10/22 performance. Considering the stock, bolt, barrel and receiver quality, I think Bergara could have charged more for it, particularly when compared to Ruger's 10/22 Competition model which has an MSRP of $900.

Ha! Ha! I just shot 10 rounds of CCI standard velocity (1,070 fps) and the bolt cycled just fine, in fact it felt very crisp. I bought one of Kidd's bolt stops for $5 but not sure if that changed anything. I'm a happy camper now. The trigger feels awesome and the action will cycle standard velocity ammo that shoots well. Merry Christmas to all.

I added an adjustable cheek riser recently that I bought from Amazon and it sure helps in getting a good/consistent cheek weld. I removed some redundant material from the front of the cheek riser that overhung the front of the comb and drilled two holes in the stock. The "dimples" that Bergara added to the stock might be spaced correctly for the Karsten cheek riser but they wouldn't work for the one I got. I did use the dimple closest to the receiver but added a second hole in a different location. The butt stock is hollow so it doesn't really matter where you put the holes. I ordered a Kidd guide rod and bolt return spring kit just because. The kit includes three springs to "tune" bolt velocity so I'll play with those a bit.

Very nice, I have a Kidd trigger that needs a home, I was starting to put together a custom 10/22 but may end up looking closer at the Bergera. How's your impression of the stock by now? Did Bergera add a rear action screw on this, or is it just one action screw like all other 10/22's?

There are some custom 10/22 receivers that have added a rear action screw below the tang area to prevent see-sawing on the one action screw with heavier barrels. Kidd makes a rear tang setup that one can mill into the rear of 10/22 receivers, just curious if Bergera addressed this.

Those Kidd triggers are very well built, as you know by now, the machining and fitment quality is easy to see.

The stock is very nice and very well made for an injection molded part. There is a tapped 1/4-20 hole at the rear of the receiver but it's not used currently so there's just one action screw.

Yes, the Kidd trigger exudes quality. The only odd thing about the two-stage trigger I bought is the spring-loaded take up before engaging the first stage. It's almost like a 3-stage trigger.

I'm in between the Bergera and the Competition Ruger, I'm leaning a little bit towards the Ruger mainly due to it having the rear action screw and extra bedding area, that is why I asked about the rear action screw.

I can find the Ruger for $600.

I'll have to pull out my Kidd and see if I notice the spring-loaded take up you described. I have mine set at 1# / 1# for field use.

@<*(((>< , that's a great price for a rifle with an MSRP of $899!! I'm not sure what the street price of the BXR is but maybe it's cut into sales of the Ruger and dropped the price. :D I hope you get the Ruger so that we have another point of comparison.

I have had the BXR steel barrel for about 500 rounds or so now. Have only shot it indoors at 25yds because... winter. It likes Eley Club so far but It doesn't seem like it has settled in yet, or maybe I haven't settled into the gun yet. I'm happy with it so far and agree that it could use some trigger work. These are all 25yard 5 shot groups except the center one on the lower target, which is a 10 shot group.

@kidneyboy, looking good there. I haven't tried Eley Club ammunition yet. Once the weather gets better I'll be trying more brands. I'm going to order some of the SK Long Range Match to see if it works well at 200 yards and beyond.

Added in edit: I ordered 500 rounds of SK Long Range Match last night so looking forward to seeing what it'll do.

@Poper, thanks for the link. I read through the article and watched a couple of videos. I've shot SK Match at 100 yards and it didn't do too well from the BXR. It's good at 50 yards but hopefully the Long Range Match stuff is better from 100 to 200 yards. Of course, the holy grail is finding some really cheap stuff that shoots well. The SKS LRM is about $0.18/round so not cheap by any means.

10/22s will shoot. Here is what mine will do at 50 yards:
index.php

On the left is various cheap "bulk pack" on the right is with better quality ammo.
Its a 50-ft target shot at 50 yards off sandbags using a "cheap" BSA 4-12X AO scope.

Its a stock 10/22 trigger that got smoothed up nicely after 1000s of rounds of plinking. Replaced the barrel with an ~$100 Green Mountain bull barrel circa 2005 and was amazed by the improvement.

Don't ask me what #5 bulk pack was, would have to go back to the original thread, which seems gone.

I just ordered a brick of SK Rifle Match this morning. Stocking up while the weather is less than ideal.

That's a good looking rifle.

Maybe I missed it but have you tried Automatch yet? It won't give you results as good as SK but I have found it to be the best bang for the buck when shooting steel or targets that are 2 MOA or bigger.

No I haven't tried Automatch but thanks for the tip.

Looking at @wally targets above I should try that Wolf Match .... it looks really good.

According to the linked article, the SK Rifle Match and SK Long Range Match differ by approx. 24 fps. (LRM being faster) and that the sd and es are slightly better with the LRM.

Interestingly, my Sako P04 prefers Eley Target over the SK RM but my Tikka T1X shoots SK RM better. (Go figure.) So I bought a case of each.

I shouldn't need to buy ammo for a while.

What's a Montana boy doing with a .22 rifle? I would think you'd be talking about your .220 Swift or .22-250 or .223. By the way where are you located in Montana? I was stationed in Great Falls back in the '60's. Love that state!!!!!

I tend to favor larger calibers and think of .264 cal as being really small. :D As is evident from this thread I don't have much experience shooting .22LR for accuracy/precision. It has always been a plinking round for me so this 200 yard plus deal is new for sure. It's interesting to see what others have achieved with their 10/22 rifles with different types of ammunition.

I'm up in the Flathead Valley near Kalispell which is about a 3-1/2 hour drive from Great Falls. I hunt in the Belt area just outside GF and love it there too. This is an amazing state for sure, particularly the western half of the state.

Is that the half Ted Turner (CNN founder) didn't buy?
:)

Apparently John Malone (Liberty Media) has surpassed him in acreage.

So the SK Long Range Match ammunition that I ordered arrived a few weeks ago. I'm not much of a .22LR shooter and I'm realizing that there's a finesse to shooting these semi-auto models and I seem to be improving. Here are four 10-shot groups that I shot recently at 50 yards and they're shown in the order that they were shot. As is evident from the targets, the results are getting better as I'm learning how to shoot this rifle. Overall I'm very pleased with the SK Long Range Match results. I did shoot a couple of groups at 100 yards which were ok (I can show those if anyone's interested) but at 200 yards I was able to put five rounds inside 2" which was very satisfying.

I ordered and received a Kidd guide rod spring kit which is an inexpensive upgrade. The guide rod has a much harder finish compared to the one that ships with the BXR. I'm running the rifle 100% suppressed so I opted for the lightest spring in the kit and so far it works great. The action sure does get dirty running suppressed though so I'm using Hornady One Shot to regularly clean out the receiver followed by Slip 2000 in critical places.

1st group ... warming up.

2nd group dropped a shot! :fire: Shot 11 rounds on this target.

3rd group ... now we're getting somewhere! :D

4th group .... rinse and repeat! :D
