Most people on here seems sensible enough, so I'm sure they don't need my advice. That being said, I strongly advise taking as much time as possible to decide on a tattoo.

Wow, that is truly the most attractive, well composed and inked badge tatoo I've ever seen! And I've got a lot of friends that have been inked.

Where did you get your's done and by whom? I've been told by multiple people that the best place to get tats in these parts is in Omaha - and I don't recall which parlor it is that's often recommended, but it's the same one. I've got a friend who has the Gadsden flag logo on his shoulder, done freehand by said artist, and it's incredible.

Personally, I've been toying with the idea of a tatoo for years. But for me, it's not "do I want to get it done?" but "do I have the money?" and "which one first?"

The first one I think I'll get will be a take on the Gadsden design, sans the "Don't Tread on Me". The rattlesnake will be coiled around an AR, with an arch scroll over the top of "Nemo me impune lacessit". The snake will have fangs bared in a striking pose. I'll likely get it on my left breast under my collar bone.

Also want to get my childrens' footprints (the ones taken at birth) inked - I just don't know precisely where to get them done; possibly on the underside of one of my forearms.

And, I'd also like to get several small "figurines" tattooed: a Spartan Hoplite, a Norse/Viking warrior, and an English longbowman. Still thinking about that one - not sure if I want all three, or just the first two. Small figures (1.5" "tall"), striking a pose.

Two things to comment on this

One is a question that was not answered for me previously so will ask the forum again...What does Molon Labe mean?????

And, for the thread originator..I got one tattoo in 1961...I like it but never wanted another. I still have it and enjoy it after 45 years. I do not want another. I do have addictive things in my make-up as I used to be addicted to alcohol and have to watch other compulsive behaviors...like wanting to buy a lot of guns, but seriously, getting one does not automatically mean wanting another. Wait and see and keep a close eye on your thinking regarding this. Enjoy! :)

I've thought about a tatoo along these lines, but it'll probably be several more years before I seriously consider getting it done.

I know exactly what 'message' (two, actually) I want to convey, but haven't decided on a design that best conveys it, and probably won't for a while. One idea was a Colonial Minuteman standing center with a Spartan and a Viking (maybe) standing on either side facing slightly outward. "Molon Labe" prominently stated. :D Another idea for the graphic was a WWII soldier kneeling with a Garand, a (slightly larger but 'hazy') Minuteman standing behind him, and a (larger, hazier) Spartan behind the Minuteman. 'Shadows of the past' as it were.

Big work in progress ( ), but the message I'm aiming for is pretty clear.

The other message I wanted a tatoo of was 'Guns as an equalizer'. I want something that symbolizes the fact guns allow any minority or weaker person/group to stand up to and resist tyranny or violent crime. I haven't put any thought into this one, but its a theme I feel quite strongly about. No clue how I might convey it with an image, though.

EDIT: I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'll be considering these for a long time because I want them to be highly distilled and profound in conveying my beliefs.
(plus I'm a bit of a perfectionist)

A Tee Shirt?

Strambo,

In showing this thing around, I've already been asked if it's available in a tee shirt.

Or even a poster.

That's some fine work.

Seriously. Someone on this board who's art inclined might be able to produce a digital image which strambo could use to start a CafePress account.

I would totally buy that shirt.

I like it, but why the lambda (iirc) under the sword? What does that symbolize?

Google image searching "spartan shield", most of 'em have a lambda (if that is indeed what it is). I don't imagine it has any specific significance to the OP.

Yes, the lambda on the shield has no significance other than being on a lot of illustrations of Spartan shields. I think it stands out a little too much being black, shaded grey would have been better I guess.

Then confirm it and go there if you get one. It is worth a drive for good work. Everything can be done via e-mail except the inking. I started the process in A-stan and didn't meet the guy until I showed up to get it. I recommend giving the artist leeway in the design...this didn't turn out how I pictured it, but I like what he did better than anything I could have come up with.

I got it done at Tigerlilly in Portland. The artist is Ben Matthews. I "google fu-ed" for the best shops in PDX and Tigerlilly kept coming up. I also had my wife ask her trendy hair dresser who would definitely know of a good tattoo artist. He recommended the same shop, but a different artist. Ben was the only one with a website, I liked his info and what I saw, so I went with him.

I aggree. I took 7 months to decide and it came about from a change in my life, not a whim. Also, I took a long time to research a good shop and artist, gave him my thoughts and some images and let him come up with the design. I could have bailed at the last minute and just paid him for the artwork. It also isn't in a place that will show even with a T-shirt so it won't effect me in any work/social situations if I don't want it to.

There are a lot of bad tattoos out there. Take the time to get custom work by a good artist and you won't be as likely to regret it later.

Great looking Ink, My last one was gun/military related, ironically enough it was added to my skin on the 20th anniversary of the FOPA of '86 and it has a MG in it.

Work done by Brian "Monk" Taylor at Infinite Art in Toledo, Ohio.

Looks great. Has a great message that doesn't jump out and get in the viewers face. Has personal significance. You like it.

Sounds like a successful tat.
