WOW, that is fast service for USPS, especially during the Christmas package season! I have to say the box was opened at the butt end, which leads me to believe a USPS employee decided to see if anything worth stealing was inside. Not knowing classic rifles, he/she/it left everything inside.
Inside the beat up box, was one well protected 91/30, bayonet and bolt wrapped separate, the ammo pouch with oiler,(three of those now...), and a small strap off the sling. The cleaning stuff/bolt tool must have fallen out or been taken. Oh well, I have one, and bolt tools are cheap.
Oh, I'm sorry, did someone ask what she is? Golly darn, that wasn't polite of me.....snicker snort....

Oh, OK. Shes a 1943 Ishy 91/30 originally imported by Aztec. The bolt and floorplate are forcematched, and the buttplate has no numbers at all. The stock shows some honest wear, and she looks like she could have seen some combat. Very few stampings at all, really, just the accuracy K, and the wreath/hammer/sickle at the barrel shank, and the year/serial, stamped very, very crooked. In 1943, the Hun was beating down the door, and they were in a hurry. I have no complaints.
The bolt looked a little rough, but clean, so I ran a patch or five down the bore to de-dust. Some garbage came out, so I scrubbed it with a brush, and patched it again before looking.....with trepidation, as this is to be a shooter.
Wow. Sharp clean rifling like it had just left the factory....not counterbored, either. Hmm, maybe she didn't see any combat.....not by that wear on the bore! Either that, or the Russian assigned to her took VERY good care of his rifle! The bayonet snaps on smooth, and comes off easily, too, but doesn't wiggle. Don't know what I am gonna do with the pigsticker, but it's always nice to have one....tent stake, maybe? JUST KIDDING, BOBW! I will take it along when we shoot her, to see the POI change, if needed. The wife picked her up, shouldered her, and looked at me -"When we going shooting?" "Gotta get some more ammo." Payday we go shooting." "Yes, Dear." I love my wife.....
Color me happy, very happy.....I have two Mosins now!

Here is the kicker - I had to sell my beloved EAA Witness 40 handgun for financial reasons, and took her to UPS to ship to her new owner today, (Is OK, now carrying a CZ PO1 9mm, better gun by far, cost very little), and was feeling a little down when I got home....to the Postal Guy standing on my porch with that long white box......good day, after all - one out, one in. Gods' way of making sure the collection doesn't suffer....
Will get pics payday - need another disposable camera.....

PS - I "drilled" the chamber, too, with the chucked brush and engne degreaser, and then with TriFlow, and it sparkles. Can't wait to shoot this rifle!

Outstanding Sir, nice to know that some one will give an old war vet a home :) have fun shooting it.
