Good news (Anyone with experience in Corrections please read)
I am going this morning in about an hour for an Pre-Employment Breifing with the Local Sheriff's Dept., to work in the County Jail. I have already heard all the stories and all, the pro's and con's, so I need any of them.
My main inquiry is in their requirements. They want me to get my Jailer Certification within one year. No biggy there, I don't think. And to also complete a 40-hr weapons training class. Now the Jailer Cert, I fully understand. But why the weapons training? I work in a jail, can't have guns there. I imagine it would be for when ever I get to transporting prisoners.
Also when I take this weapons class, is that going to give my CHL?
Also since I'm not an actual peace officer, do I still get the DPS discount on my CHL?
I know probably some dumb questions that will be answered here in an hour or so. But you gotta be nervous. I mean this is the career I have always wanted, or actually this will be the career I have always wanted. I am not planning on a lifetime in corrections but I am using this as my way in to the department.
Wish me luck guys, and thanks for all your answers!
