I have heard that you must keep both your hands behind the cylinder chamber mouths to avoid injury.
The trigger guard spur is designed to allow for a hand over hand pistol style hold.
Original Colt revolving rifles were sometimes fired with the loading lever dropped and used as a forward hold/support for the barrel but I would think that still would leave that hand exposed to injury.

i have to wear glasses to see so thats an easy one for me? plus i wonder if by chance if this thing is legal for deer hunting here in oklahoma?
I don't know about legality for deer in Oklahoma but I have seen very impressive chrony read outs from full loads out of those carbines. Some approaching 1300 FPS with full loads of pyrodex p.
More then enough for deer

You made me curious because Missouri allows percussion revolvers over .40 caliber during its “Alternative Methods” season. Here is a screenshot of Oklahoma game regulations. Revolvers/repeaters are not specifically mentioned. By all means check with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation to be sure.

Had one once, sold it. Didn't like being sprayed in the face with powder residues and cap fragments. Yes I was wearing glasses. After I sold it the customer returned it saying the front sight was canted to the side. I never noticed it but sure enough it was. Had to pull the barrel and remove some metal to correct the problem.

I think that with the 18 inch barrel, you should be legal if you add a conversion cylinder at some point in the future but check your local laws!

PR0338 Remington Revolving Carbine .44 (dixiegunworks.com) this is the first time for me to have one of these but my LGS had it and i really liked it? plus this one has the date of 2016 on it and is like new condition.
The Remington Carbine is one of the most fun muzzleloaders I have shot. Like the others have said make sure to wear eye protection for powder blowback.
Also, I just clicked that link and went to the dixe gun works listing, wow have those gone up in price since I last checked.

Concur. Both hands back. I read about Berdan Sharp Shooters being injured when they supported their 1855 Root Revolving Rifles by the wood forearm. The men generally hated those guns.

I have one plus a 45C conversion cylinder for it.
Mine is a Uberti, Taylors and Company and the conversion also fits a Remington NMA. Companion pieces so to speak. It came with two percussion cylinders.
I load the percussion with 30 grains of 3F and a .454 Roundball. The 45C with TrailBoss and various 45 caliber bullets from 200 to 250 grains. As mentioned keep your off hand behind the cylinder gap. 77A32EF6-AB25-4C1F-B50F-6DA290982EE4.jpeg ]

I had that problem with a Sharon barrel I purchased on eBay. It looked great except the front sight dovetail was mis-cut leaving the front sight standing about a five degrees off of plumb…

You might want to check with your game warden about the legality of using a percussion revolver. It is my understanding that single shot muzzleloading handguns are permitted but not percussion revolvers.

Honestly I don't understand why anybody would want to hunt with one but that's just me.

whughett,

That 5th Model Burnside is a hoot! I have one, and enjoy it a lot. We should start a new thread so as not to highjack this one.

so how many cylinders do you guys recommend to carry with this carbine?
I use both percussion cylinders when at the range, load both off gun, shoot the twelve rounds, reload repeat. I’m only punching paper though so it’s all recreational shooting.

loading a revolver with that shoulder stock can be a bit awkward and the Remingtons quick base pin cylinder swap makes loading off gun practical.

so guys get this i took this new to me 44c carbine by uberti and the first 6 shots i ony had to raise the sight elevator 2 times as it was shooting low and the last 4 shots in the bullseye!! this thing shoots really accurate! i used duelist1954 recommendation of 40grs goex 3f and a lubed wad under the ball and wow this gun is alot of fun!!

That is so nice when a new gun is easy to sight in. You got 40 grains under a ball AND a wad? Wow. Is the cylinder longer than a pistol cylinder? And was that a weighed charge or volume/measured charge?

That is great that you sighted it in so fast. Bonus!
