I made a new medium bore fan today.

I read on the internet that the last T-Rex they used for Jurassic Park died about a month ago.
The Whelen is one of the less common calibers I've come across in various ammo buys across the pawn counter. Eventually someone comes in and asks for one of the less mainstream cartridges and they do sell eventually. Gotta realize, south Florida has no deer bigger than a German Shep. Not much hunting down here but for boar in the 'Glades and a .44 mag revolver or 10 mm pistol works just fine on them and is a lot easier to hump around the sawgrass.
That's the truth. I don't need a Whelen for any of my hunting. But it's fun to shoot.

Personal favorites: My 141 is a 1939 vintage rifle in 35 Remington caliber. The rifle was retrofitted with a Jaeger side mount and a German Nickel scope. The old rifle shows use but has been very well kept. Thee rifles are accurate but somewhat heavy. These pump action Remington's are a mechanical wonderment that would cost thousands to make today. The original 35 Remington cartridge was in the Browning designed rifle that became the Model 8 semi-automatic. I'm surprised that nobody has added the 9.3mm in the mix..The 35 Remington may be the only medium bore rifle cartridge that has had acceptance in this country.

That's probably because it was in a lever action a lot of the time. It was hard to beat at iron sight distances. The 35 rem is also relatively low recoil for the killing ability.

.357 Magnum makes a great medium-bore rifle cartridge. Maybe it's more a carbine-cartridge. But it's great. Yes, it's limited to maybe 175 yards or so, but it's no fun vaporizing water jugs at 200 yards anyway. Besides, it's not like .35 Whelen is a 1000 yard cartridge.

The .357 is featured at 10:29. The only thing in the video that blows up watermelons as good as it is the 12 ga. There's no .35 Whelen, which I admit would best the rest of them.
