So after a few years of shooting .38/.357, 9mm and plenty of .22lr, I have the itch for a 1911 in .45.
I've read up on a number of brands at a number of price points, but I keep coming back to the Colts. The current catalog is a bit confusing, so I thought I would ask the experts: If you could have only one, traditional, full-size Colt 1911 for range use and occasional open carry, which would it be?
I don't intend to buy more than one 1911, and I'd like a "classic" Colt. I don't want to go crazy with customization, don't intend to compete, but I do intend to shoot it. In trips to the range with new shooters, it might be pressed into "this is a classic 1911, try a magazine" service. I'm more interested in new vs. used.
Any recommendations? Thanks all!
