I've also posted this here at TFL. The computer I use most often (the one with the cable hook up) can no longer bring up THR for some reason, the only computer I have that will work for THR is the one with the dial-up connection, so I'm not over here very much anymore. For that reason I'll mostly follow the thread at TFL, though I'll be sure to use the dial-up at least once a week so I can follow this thread. Anyway.....

I think it is past time for a TFL/THR MD shoot. The past few THR shoots (before TFL came back) have gone pretty well but it has been a while and I don't want to lose our "momentum".

I'm pretty open on dates, so long as it is a Sunday (I can't do anything on Sat, but if everyone else would rather do Sat that is fine, I can miss a shoot or two now and again I guess). I haven't thought that much about specific dates. Since we are in mid-June now I'm thinking min-July gives enough time to get it together and not so much that people won't know if they will be free. For me the only caveat is that sometime in early July, and I don't know which weekend, I will be in Ohio to visit an uncle who is dying of cancer.

I'm thinking about Sunday, July 18th (the day after my birthday) as a good time for the shoot, but if people would prefer another day post it and we'll see if that is better for more people. As usual, I'm thinking about 2 or 3 pm so that those of you who are church-goers can go to church and still have time for lunch with the family, yet it is early enough for a couple hours range time.

It might be too hot, but my first choice is the Hap Baker range in Westminister. In addition to being a rifle range, I'm sure the pistol range should be completed at Hap Baker by then (if it isn't already). On Target (indoors) is my second choice (and first if we're getting 95-100 degree temps and matching humidity, which isn't unheard of in mid-July ;) ).

Post here if you can make it, have a preference for one range or the other, or want to propose an alternative date (I did say that I hadn't thought too much about it, so I won't be too upset if you don't like the date I suggested :p ).

Count me in, I have a K98 Mauser that I haven't run anything through yet and a camp 45 that has an unsighted in red dot on it. I'll probably also bring the Garand, M1 carbine, and SKS. Not sure if I'll bring any pistols unless it's at On Target. If you know of something I have and want me to bring it let me know.

Chaim: If you want someone to look at that computer to see why it won't get to THR anymore let me know.

I can't make it that day...I'll be starting another camp (one time...at band camp) that day. Gotta make money to support my shooting habit.

I'm a free man as of next Wednesday if anyone is up for a mid-week shoot....I'm in town until July 10 and then after July 24......planning on slinging a lot of lead at On Target, Hap Baker and the PGC trap range :D

Looking forward to seeing you guys again sometime but .. it's gonna be approaching winter I think before I get down there. Summer schedule is heavy .... but sadly I know summer will be soon gone - always is!

I'll follow your plans and see what happens but ... probably be end of year before next one I manage.

In meantime .. enjoy your shooting ... see ya eventually!

OK, that is a couple definates so far. I'll try to get to Hap Baker sometime late in June to see if the pistol range is up and running so we know if pistols are workable (of course, any you can hit with at 25 yards can be used at the rifle range).

Norton and P95, sorry we won't see you.

Anapex, thanks for the offer but I don't think it is worth bothering. I've looked over it, checked the security settings, etc, and I can't figure it out. The only website I've noticed this on is THR, I don't get it. It would make more sense if it affected other websites as well. I'm not going to worry about it anymore, I'll just have to use my computer with the dial-up connection a little more.

The 18th looks good for me so far.

Norton and I were at Hap Baker last week, and the handgun range was about 98% done. And boy is it nice!

They still need to get the trolleys up, but it should be done by the 18th.

I'll be out of town that weekend.

Norton - I'd be up for a mid-week shoot, especially at PGC. I have a flexible schedule so drop me an E-mail if you're interested. Next Thursday or Friday (6/24-25) are open at this point.

ANApex and I will be out of town that weekend, unfortunately. We can do it the weekend before that or after. Otherwise, we'll just catch ya'll next time.

Guess it sounds like I'll be out of town (gotta listen to the boss). So I guess it'd be nice if we could get another date scheduled.

Chaim: Fixing (and screwing up) computers is part of what I do for a living, so if you want me to I can look at it.

Norton, MikeK, Anapex and Girlwithagun can't make it that weekend. Only 3 of us have said they can make that weekend. Would anyone object to changing it to the 11th so they can be there too?

Hap Baker range is at the rear of the Carroll County landfill on Rt 140 near Westminster.

The rifle range is 9 or 10 points. They supply bench, target frames, backer board, stapler and sand bags. All points are covered and there is ample storage space on tables behind the firing points.

Great place with good range officers who do their job professionally.

Pistol range was not complete as of June 10. Bill (RO) said they were still trying to figure out the trolley system. The powers that be decided that a purpose built trolley system was too expensive and they were going to design their own. So far it wasn't really working.....

Fees for out of county residents are $10 per visit or $60.00 per calendar year.

Looks like July 11th is it.

As for the range, about all I have to add to what Norton said is that if the pistol range isn't open we will have 25yrd, 50yrd and 100yrd targets. There are two lanes with 200yrd points. You can shoot pistols at the 25yrd target. It is outdoors so dress for the weather. I haven't been there since the last THR shoot so I don't have any more info about the pistol range.

The 11th seems ok for me too.

I'll pm the collection of MD folks that I've been working on here to see if anybody else is interested.....

Any possibility of using buck and slugs? My "Serious" 870s are not getting enough exercise....

Could someone give me directions there . I was going to give my son in law from P.A. an NRA pistol course while he was here visiting for a P.A. CCW and AGC is shut down for a state shoot for the entire 4th of July weekend. I am not a happy camper considering how much I pay for a range badge each year. I think it would be better spent on a membership elsewhere. but thats another issue.

molonlabe- directions per Spot77 from our last visit to Hap Bakers

**Hap Baker Range
Carroll County Landfill
Route 140
Westminster MD 21157
Contact: JoAnn Hunter
Phone: 410-386-2103
Shooting opportunities for small and large caliber rifle and pistols.
Open to the Public. Daily or season passes are required Days and times vary.

Coming from Baltimore beltway:
Take rte 795 all the way to the end, it then turns into rte 140 north. Go a few miles until you see the sign for the county landfill on the right (I believe it's shortly after passing the Reece Vol fire Dept on your left).

Turn right into the county landfill and follow the signs all the way to the back.

As it stands now, looks like I'll be leaving on vacation that day, so I won't be able to make it. Darn, and I just got back my AR-180B from Armalite to test.

Maybe next time.

tomorrow

Well, i purposely avoided this thread because i knew i wouldn't make it.
I am PCSing in less than 2 weeks (yaaaaaahhooooooooooowweeeeeeeeee!!!)
And will thus never meet all of you. That is my loss, I am sure.

But, here's some short notice: a few of us local docs-who-love-guns are meeting at NRA tomorrow AM to shoot a little. We all have other things to do later in the day so we wont stay too long. If any of you show up. Please walk over to me, a medium height muscular caucasian, and his motley crew of friends. We all have short haircuts and will be grinning from ear to ear with the thought of leaving MD!

I wouldd very much like to meet any of you!

If not, to the few i have met and all the rest as well: it has been an honor and my pleasure to live in your community. I will still post and read from my new assignment, as yet I realize I leave behind in 'enemy territory' some truly fine individuals.
