Here's my deal. I have two carry guns and I try to be proficient with both. I have a 340 PD and a Ruger SR40c. The S&W has been impeccably flawless, but that's not what this post is about. Sometimes I want to carry an autoloader with more ammo capacity. I've always been a revolver guy and cut my teeth on single action Rugers so I wanted my CCW carry autoloader gun to be a Ruger, too. So I got the SR40c and have enjoyed it immensely until recently. When it stopped firing. Which is a big deal. Light strikes. Apparently somewhat common.

If your SR40 (or SR9) hasn't had the light strike problem I don't need to hear about it. Because mine has. It plagues some pistols, and not others.

I keep my guns clean and maintained. The striker channel and pistol is clean. I purchased and installed the stiffer (really actually longer) striker spring from Galloway Precision. It helped a little but still only maybe 3 out of 5 rounds on average fired. My SR40c is en route, as we speak, to the factory. I don't know what they are going to do to it because their technicians don't come to the phone. So, cool. They fix it. I get it back. It fires. But, um, I don't trust it anymore, sorry. No, I'm not sorry, I don't trust it anymore. Once bitten twice shy. Sorry to have to say all that but I'm looking for a better CCW autoloader:

Compact
All black (or camo)
.40 cal
USA made
forget price at this point
the two magazine capacity (9 and 15) that the SR40c had was ideal

Please don't ask me why I haven't considered Glock. I have as much respect for Glock as Anderson Silva now has for Chris Weidman. But I don't want a Glock. I have my reasons.

So, please educate me on reliable .40 cal carry guns that fit my criteria.

I'm grateful for your time. Seriously!

My son loves his XDm 4.5 in .40, and it certainly shoots well. I have the same gun in 9MM and really like it.

I am happy with my sig226 in 40. Not surprised about the ruger problems. I like a lot of their pistols but not the large caliber autos.

Isn't the Springfield XD line made either in Brazil or Croatia? As I stated in my post, I am looking ONLY for USA made.

M&P and XD/XDM are two good choices that are pretty similar to what you're using already.

Edit
Yes, the XD is Croatian. That leaves the M&P, still a great gun.

Thank you.
Yes. Compact. The SR40c was fairly concealable (on my large frame). I carried it primarily with the 9 round mag. I use the 15 round mag (with adapter) for fun and in-home use.

Thanks, I'm taking a hard look at an M@P right now.

I'm wondering if the SIG and FN guns are USA made. I know they aren't USA based, and I'm kind of okay with that.

My Winny Model 70 Featherweight is made in South Carolina.. I love the cackalacki's!

Well the M&p 40 compact fills all your requirements

US made
All black
.40 S&W
can take 10 round mags or 15 round mags

I have two M&Ps (9mm & .45ACP) I am very fond of 'email. I carry the 9mm Shield, which is available in .40 S&W.Easy to carry, soft shooting, accurate, reliable (1000+ rounds w/o fail). BTW, I carried a SR9c for over a year. 100% reliable, but just never got comfortable carrying it.

Yes, the FNP, FNX, and FNS are all made in the USA.

I carry a m&p 40c IWB @ 4 o'clock. It felt a little thick and heavy at first but I quickly adapted to it... It has functioned flawlessly and I am even able to use the mags from my Sigma series pistol. It is a very loud pistol also. Very concealable and accurate..

I've shot the XD in 357SIG, the Glock 23, and I've owned the FNX-40 and Cougar in 40.

The FNX 40 is the lightest of the bunch, and it has remarkably low felt recoil to me. Sorta happy medum between the XD and the Glock; it has much less muzzle flip than the XD, and much less felt recoil than the Glock. I'm still waiting for my first malfunction. It's made in the USA. But it's not a small gun.

Gotta love spell correction. :)

I'm a big fan of the M&P line.
Also, if you are willing to give up some on the capacity, I LOVE Kahr's K series, and the K40 black would fit the bill on every count but mag capacity.
On the other hand, you get a more concealable gun. might be worth the tradeoff.

If you're not a pre-disposed Glock hater, you should not buy a polymer semi-auto in .40S&W without at least trying a G22 or 23. Then if you really do hate it, fine.

You've answered your own question. There is only one other american made higher capacity polymer pistol out there that I can think of. S&W.

An earlier post was right about the Edge. While it's a fabulous gun, it's a full size competition designed pistol. HOWEVER, if your budget allows, you might want to consider the STI VIP. At 4" and with the aluminum alloy frame (or steel if desired) it works well as a carry gun and gives you 12+1 in .40 cal with the 126 mm flush fitting mags. (Higher capacity mags available.) It can be had in all black and is built from start to finish in Georgetown, TX. They also come with a lifetime warranty.

The boys down in Texas make some mighty fine 1911/2011s.

Another vote for the S&W M&P40c. They are very good pistols and meet all the OP's requirements too. The price doesn't seem out of line either.
