I have not bought a new gun in a while, so I thought recieving my tax retrun might be a good time to break this drought. These are a few guns that have been floating around the top of my wish list lately.

  • AR-556 Pistol (in .300 BLK) - I wonder why they don't call the version chambered in .300 BLK the AR-300? I was thinking of this primarily as a range toy, with a possible secondary home defence role.
  • PC Carbine - Not quite sure which one I want. The original? The one with the M-LOK handguard? The full tactical one with handguard and collapsible stock. Again, primarily a range gun, but with possible secondary home defence use.
  • SR1911 Target - Ever since I shot a friend's 1911, I've wanted one of my own. This one is stainless with adjustable sights like I wanted. I want this strictly as a target gun (I've got enough SD hand guns already).
  • New Model Blackhawk Super Bisley Hunter - I've always wanted a .44 mag and I've always wanted a single-action, and I like the ease of attaching a scope for my old eyes. I'm not a hunter, so this is another range gun.

As you can see, my tastes are all over the place and I'd probably be happy with any of these. I'm not really looking for advice on which one I should pick, but I was hoping to hear some first hand experience (good or bad) with each one.

Thanks!

I don't have the bisley hunter but my new model SBH is my favorite handgun! 7.5" barrel.

Don't have much use for an AR pistol. My Brother In Law has the PC Carbine; nice but kind of heavy for a 9mm. The Ruger SR1911 Target would be a great choice if you're looking for something beyond just another 1911 for the range, home defense, or concealed carry. The Blackhawk Super Bisley Hunter in .44 Magnum would make for a fun range toy.

You got me thinking about the gun I'd been wanting, and then had pretty much forgotten. Maybe Ruger will get a piece of my money, too, in exchange for a stainless Vaquero.. ;)

Just as an aside, a tax "return" is the document that you file. You're talking here about a tax "refund." Actually, getting a refund means that you made the government an interest-free loan. Ideally you should plan (through adjusting withholding, etc.) to owe a small amount when you file.

Ruger is doing something right.

A lot of stocks did the Titanic during this pandemic. Firearms industry fared a little better, Ruger stock went from mid $40s to mid $50s:)

I would do the pistol carbine flavor thingie myself . IMO / $.02

I have a PC Carbine. It’s the original version and I like it very much. The only additions or changes I made to mine was I added a compensator - Odin Works “Atlas 9” and a Sig Sauer “Romeo 5” red dot sight.

I set it up for Glock magazines.

It has become my favorite long gun. It’s very fun to shoot and it’s accurate.

I too have the original model. I set it up for Glock mags, put a TRS-25 on it. Volquartsen trigger pack, MCarbo buffer upgrade. The TRS-25 is mounted on the barrel.

Yesterday I started having extraction problems. I broke it down, chipped out the gunk, and noticed the extractor is quite worn. So I ordered the MCarbo extractor upgrade and their bolt pins. I've got a couple thousand rounds through this carbine at a minimum.

As soon as I can find a Charger model at a sane price I'm going to buy it.

No experience with the AR-556 or PC Carbine. Had a standard model SR1911. It was OK, but nothing special in the way of 1911s. I have the Bisley Hunter in 44 Mag. I'd say it's the more in the way of a "Classic Ruger" than the others.

While I don't own either I am current also looking for an ar pistol, haven't decided on 9mm or 300acc. So you first two fall in my list of what i would consider as well.

My Vote is the Ruger PC Carbine in 9mm. I have one and I swapped it to accept Glock Mags, I got several of the Magpul 21 rounders and I absolutely love the thing. 100% reliable and very accurate at 50 yards.

Besides, none of those other choices can toss a 250-300 grain bullet.

MBC 255 coated .452, over five grains Power Pistol in a 1911.
The Blackout only misses it by ten grains with coated.
And the PCC can do it, too. It just takes three shots!:D

So, the easiest way to figure this out is to get all of them. You’ll probably be happier in the long run,@mdauben .;)

(oops, wrong link.)

Thanks for the ideas and opinions! I'm starting to lean toward either the 1911 or the Super Blackhawk. Both classic in their own way and as handguns I'd probably get more use out of them (local indoor handgun range is 5-10 minutes away, closest outdoor range is 30-40 minutes and not always open).

I don't get much of a refund check. I have my pay in taxes set that way.

Stimulus check? What I decided, to allocate it across upcoming purchases. Such as, bird shot for trap shoot is $39 a bag/25#. Nope, I allocated ten dollars towards it, effectively making it $29:cool:.

Spread the $ through the family makes more family happy. Translation: SWMBO or, MMH (make momma happy LoL)

OK, that XYZ pistol that is selling for $550 ? Can effectively become $400.

Just a thought;)

Don't count on getting a stimulus payment anytime soon, if you habitually have a balance due on your tax return. The direct-deposit payments are keyed to the direct-deposit information for refunds on your 2019 or 2018 returns. If you had balances due in those years, the IRS doesn't have your bank information. And the web portal for you to supply that information is malfunctioning. That means you have to wait for a paper check, which could take months.
