Can't help you without a serial number. And if it's a model 57 it would have to be nickle and not stainless. Stainless would be a 657.
Hi here's the number. N691616 - 6 inch barrel square wood grips , in excellent condition. Thanks for your time sir

Standard Catalog says 1979-1980. As high as that number is I would think probably 1980.

Sounds like a nice gun.

Thanks for your time, I really don't know what to do with this gun as ammo is kinda hard to get here in Oregon. Do you have any thoughts on what the vaule is ? Is this a possible collectable? I've searched and found them for as much as 1400 to 800$. Any information would be greatly appreciated

Well, finding ammo is easy because there are tons of good online ammo sellers. Finding CHEAP ammo is another thing entirely because 41 magnum just isn't a high production volume round.

All older S&W revolvers are collectable to a degree. Your problem is finding someone who wants a nickel model 57. As far as knowing the value, the best way to determine that is to search Gunbroker to see what people are actually paying for them. Limit your search to completed auctions.

As a lower-end figure, any pre-lock S&W in decent shape (other than a model 10 or 36) will rarely go below $500 around here. One of the magnum calibers rarely goes below $600, and nice ones in somewhat scarce configurations will bring $800-$1000. Like I said, your challenge is finding the right S&W collector. Someone wants that gun, you just have to find them.

This going to be a thread for those who are looking for a date of manufacture for their S&W revolvers.

We'd need to know :

a) caliber
b) bbl length (from cylinder to muzzle)
c) grips shape (round or square)
d) number of shots/cylinder bores
e) type of sights.
f) serial number, and if there is a letter in front of or anywhere near the s/n on the bottom of the grip
g) Model number if it is under the crane.
That number, if it is the s/n, should come from the butt of the grip (or under the barrel or face of the cylinder).

A picture or two is worth A LOT of words in this case...

Strike the update. My auction receipt says a model 37, but internet pics do not match my weapon. Sorry about that!

Date of manufacture for S&W model 37

So, I've been able to narrow down the year to around 1967, I think. It's a S&W model 37 airweight. Serial number 704*** no dash or letter. On the frame behind the crane reads MOD-37. Any help in finding its year of manufacture would be greatly appreciated.

Is this S&W a Pre-Model 16? Year of Production?

1) 3 Screw Side-Plate
2) No Mod # under crane
3) 6" Barrel - Pinned to Frame
4) Blued Partridge Front Sight - not pinned
5) SN Digits on Right Hand Grip Panel
6) Square Butt
7) Adjustable Rear Sight - No White Outline
8) 6 Round - Non-Rebated Chambers
9) .32 S&W Long
10) SN: K 271XXX

This is the only "older" S&W that I own, and just too good to shoot regularly.

Thank You for any info!

George

I have a S&W Mod. 10-5 that I inherited from my Father when he passed in 2006.

It's a 6 shot K frame with a square butt. Ser # on the bottom of the butt is 2D54283.

It has the # 6695 B stamped on the crane.

Could you tell me the "Born on Date" (LOL)

Thanks in advance, here's a picture.

I picked up a no lock 642-1 today to replace my 442-2 that has a Hillary hole in it. The serial is CTE5801. It is marked +P on the barrel and 642-1 behind the yoke. Thank you in advance for looking this up.

I have what I believe is a K 22. I was hoping to confirm that and hopefully the year it was made. The grips in the photos are not the ones that came with it. They were a tad small for my hands. They also are s/n matched to the frame.
Any ideas when it was produced?

I was wondering if you could tell me the details about the gun. I know some were Belgium made and some were dual caliber. I was just wondering what were the details about my gun.... I will post pics
also it's such an old gun I cant see the numbers very well on it... where would they be located?

Your Texas Ranger is not a S&W. It is chambered in .38 S&W Special, but it is not manufactured by S&W.
