i'd love some info on my new/old s&w model 15-4
it's blued, 4'' barrel, square butt.
serial # 86K2897.
it's a 38spc.
please?

Tabequache:
1961 or 1962. Serial range C474149 to C622699, so it could fall in either year.
If a model 10-2 then probably 1961. If a 10-3 then 1962.

Sorry Radagast.

Turns out this is a FIVE shot .38. Serial # 206117. It does have a lanyard tho...

Goste:
That is an early Chiefs Special manufactured between 1959 (serial number 163051) & 1962 (serial number 295000).
If marked Airweight with an aluminum frame, then it is a Model 37 Chiefs Special Airweight.
If all steel then its a Model 36 Chiefs Special.
AFAIK S&W did not offer a 4 inch barrel on the .38 Special Chiefs Special. They did offer a three inch barrel.

Sauer Grapes:
1983 for your Chiefs Special Airweight.

Thank you.

Sold my only revolver about 5 years ago. Last week I went crazy on Gunbroker and bought the 37, 60-7 2'' and a 19-3 6''.....lol.

Thanks again

Sidreilley:
The Model 13-3 .357 Magnum Military & Police Heavy Barrel was listed as manufactured from 1982 to 1988. Your serial number falls into the range for 1981. My guess is S&W started the change over to the -3 in 1981, your gun may not have shipped until 1982.

S&w 10-5

Radagast
If you could, help date this baby that I just pickedup...
It's a S&W 10-5... 2" 'snubbie'... .38spl, SqB, 6-shot...
Serial # C9194XX...
Thanks... Appreciate the help.

..

GZOh:
Your gun falls in the serial range for 1966/67, C810533 to C999999. Falling near the half way mark of that range, it could be either year. I'd be sentimental and call it a Christmas gun for 1966.

Cajun:
Not an I or J frame Kit gun, serial range only went to 135465.
Not a pre war K22 outdoorsman, serial range started at 632132.
Not a post war K22 Masterpiece, as there is no K prefix.
Not a Model 45 K frame Military & Police, as no C prefix.
Not a M frame Ladysmith, serial range only went to 26154.

If it is a K frame, then the serial number is wrong, probably taken from under the cylinder yoke instead of the butt.

The other possibility is its a .22/32 Hand Ejector, built on the I frame and dating to around 1915, with the serial number on the front strap. This will be a 'true Bekeart' gun, as the catalogued production started around serial number 160000. Prior to that they were special run guns for Bekehart of San Francisco.

Oh wait. I read the receipt wrong. There is a K in front of the S/N. K 141633.

It's a five screw K-frame, 22. Six inch barrel, target sights, diamond Magnas and flat post war finish...it's definitely a K-22.

6" barrel
serial No. S 235586
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated in dating this revolver.

Cajun: 1952. Serial range for that year was K136691 to K175637.

jdavis123: 1963 or 64. Serial range for those years was S232000 to S235999. 1964 seems probable.
