IF they pass a new "assault weapon" ban, what will that do to the value of AR-15s owned by civilians that have more than one [if that's the new "law"] of the "restricted items"? COULD you even sell them to another person?

This is all contingent upon an allowed grandfathering.

Current proposed federal legislation would require registration of all existing "assault weapons" (as defined) and you would not be allowed to sell them, period. When you die, you would have to hand them over for destruction.

So, there would be no legal value.

There would, however, be a black market value. Sky's the limit.

Legislation making a person's very expensive gun collection worthless with the stroke of a pen would amount to illegal taking of property, would it not?

So are you saying that we would be forced to register the ones we already have? It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I was talking guns with some guys at my local gunsmith shop. As I was considering the sale of an AR, they suggested keeping it, because it would be worth more. . . or rather, "the metal would be worth more" . . . than the inflated amount I could get for it right now.

Still, the inflated amount is very tempting. Yet, because I wouldn't go against a law, I wouldn't sell it "on the black market". There is the topic of "whether or not it WOULD be illegal to sell that way, since any ban would be an infringement on the 2nd Amendment".

This is more about what was discussed at the gunsmith shop.

At this point in time, you may have to make that decision based on the current owners life expectancy.

Unless the House passes the AWB, there is no chance---so don't "bank" on the AR's being valuable---in fact prices will drop hard and fast after this nonsense goes away.

Talk about making felons out of law abiding citizens with the stroke of a pen, now that is tyranny in my book.

Why is it we have to have 2 and 3 questions posted every day that there is absolutely no way of knowing an answer to?

Just talking points. Conjecture. I don't expect any definite answers, just opinions from others. And there is nothing wrong with this type of post.

Again, since NONE of the 19 proposed EO's include a capacity or weapons ban, there is a slim to no chance of it passing in the House. That said, sell it now before prices start falling fast.

If a Federal AWB is written like NY's then the AR will have $0.00 value.
You get to register it and then keep it until you pass on then it gets confiscated.

Or

It is NOT registered and enters the black market making you a criminal.
I am expecting In NY they just doubled the amount of criminals in that state.
If you are looking for illegal workers.... no problem
If you are looking for illegal drugs....... no problem
If you are looking for illegal guns...........................

What happens to firearms in trusts. My NFA trust has my wife and kids as members of the trust. Technically
I don't own the firearms, my trust does.

If an AWB in effect makes a rifle worth nothing, and is demanded to be handed over when you die [or before, if more strict], . . . wouldn't that be the same as "theft?" People have spent a LOT of money on some of their AR builds. Noveske, Bravo, JP, and many others. People have spent BIG bucks on them. I wonder, IF that happens, if people just loose the thousands of dollars they have spent?

These are diabolical people, they float trail balloons and blow smoke, it's not what they are saying so far, fear what they aren’t talking about.

The plan is to have the House have to vote on the capacity and weapons ban so he can paint Republicans in a corner on the issue(for 2014) for midterms. NONE of the possible 19 EO's can/do include these bans---so unless the House passes it, it isn't going to happen.
