It you didn't have to get signatures and pay a tax and go through the NFA paperwork to get a sawed-off shotgun, would you carry it?

I'm thinking a Serbu shorty 12 ga or 20 ga.

If they were as easy to possess and carry as handguns, I know I'd be shopping for some long trench coats. Hehe

If they were as easy to possess and carry as handguns,

Even the shortest AOW shotguns would be hard to conceal. It would be even harder here in Houston to conceal it, because of the heat (and correspondingly, less layers of clothes.) I've worn a coat exactly one time since last winter.

I think a pistol in a decent caliber (.38 spl on up) would be more versatile then a sawed off shotgun. An SOS that was small enough to easily conceal wouldn't have much effective range and would be much harder to shoot well.

I don't think it would be practical to carry, for reasons so well discussed above. However, i think it would make a great truck weapon or house weapon, nor to mention as a SHTF weapon.

Naw.....My chose would still be a handgun for CCW. My Remmy 870 is the weapon I reach for when things go bump in the night.:D

Once upon a time, prior to all this NFA nuttiness, someone (Ithaca I believe) offered just such an animal. It was intended primarily for defense on the road, and the Idaho Historical Museum's example has a holster designed to be mounted in a horseless carraige. :)

It was about the size of a Colt Walker as I remember, pretty chunky but I still don't think I'd care to put my wrists to it. eek!

Kaylee, that was an Ithaca Auto Burglar (or Auto and Burgler), IIRC they were only in 20 ga dbl bbl. Shot one once, great gun, but a BEAR to shoot. Close range awesome!

Min,
Have you ever patterned one of those little beasties? You might be surprised how little effective range you get, not to mention the danger to bystanders with stray .32 caliber pellets.

Jeff - who thinks with a breaching round those would be handy as a secondary on an entry team ;)

Those tiny shotguns only carry 1-3 rounds and reloading ain't that easy.

I'll stick with 5-17 rounds with a handgun thank you very much.

Now if I could get an HK MP5PDW as a CCW piece, I might go for that.

A breaching round is a powdered lead load used for blowing hinges or locks off of a door with minimal splash damage.

I agree that a pistol is much more versatile and practical than a small shotgun.

An LEO friend of my back home had a pistol gripped 12ga Rossi Coach gun with barrels flush with forend. Patterned better than you'd think. I'd like to try one fitted with Wad-Wizards.

He also had a Plainfield Emforcer M2. Now THAT was fun!

Here ya go Kaylee

The Ithaca Auto & Burglar

20ga 12¼" barrels

They were about $40.00 brand new in the 20s & 30s :what:

They're worth a little bit more nowadays.

Mall Ninjas? It's leather, what self-respecting Mall Ninja would buy a leather holster? Even if it does have a glock in it. :)

Thanks Kharn, I couldn't find it. Who makes those? I seem to remember they had a lot of unusual stuff.

No way. I've fired one and found it to be completely worthless for my purposes. If I were going to carry a long arm, it would be an SBR AR-15. More controllable and thus more effective for its purpose.
