Fortunatly, I don't have to make that dission right now. But if I did, it would be between my 45 lc custom flattop by John Gallagher or my box stock s&w 3 1/2" round but 696 44 spl.

I've got the revolver in my safe that fills the bill. Its a 6" 44 mag. Colt Anaconda. I can load it HOT, I can load it COLD, I can load it anywhere in between. It'll shoot better groups than my old eyes can produce and its as solid as a battle tank. It and the 4" 629 will be mine until the day I crap out and then some lucky kids in the family will end up with them. Great guns.
I was going to dream something up, including the revolvers of some famous individuals, like General J.E.B. Stuart's LeMat, or the like...
But, seeing as I have only one revolver, and I bought it because I didn't have one, and consider it to be the quintessential modern sixgun..

I think a model 649, with a 3" model 60 barrel, and an unfluted cylinder.
It's a thing of beauty, and would suffice for darn near all purposes I would have for a good revolver--with only a swap of the grips needed for the different purposes.
But, since Bullet probably wouldn't give up the thing.....probably my S&W 620, as it was a pseudo-custom deal for me, built 2 days before my birthday one year. My first handgun, too. I don't have a real good picture of it, unfortunately.

Like several others here I would use my K frame S&W model 66 with a round butt and 3" barrel.
I would love a 3" early model 686 or 586 too.

I guess, if I really could have but one - it'd be my 625-7 MG - my first ever S&W. My wife bought that new for me 8/02. My ~3k homebrew .45 Colt rounds for it would help, especially if, in the perceptual one-gun world, I could still reload for it. It, and my then other .45 Colts, were why I started reloading.
You know, so many rationales should be considered... my 642 & 296 make far better choices - they are CCWs. My 617 - or that 627 Pro from last year - much more frugal to plink with than a .45 Colt - and accessible ammo, too. My 6" 629 is a fine plinker with .44 Russians & Specials; scoped and with Magnums, it's a hunter. Nope... one revolver, that 625MG would be it - sentimental.
I don't like this.

Either a 4 inch 686, GP100, or 625 MG.
I had the opportunity to pick up a .45 Colt 625 MG a couple years ago but didnt jump on it. Havent seen one since. Such a beautiful weapon.
