The rifle: RRA Varmint upper with a 20" bull barrel in a 1:8 twist mated with a spare lower from a RRA Elite CAR. The mount is a LaRue SPR. The scope is a Leupold VX-III 8.5-25x50mm Long Range Target (30mm tube).

Call me crazy but I put a collapsable stock on it.

Why put a collapsable stock on a precision rifle?

1st reason: I go on several prairie dog shoots a year. My main rifle is a Cooper Montana Varminter bolt action rifle with a AAA Claro walnut stock. We shoot mostly on private ranches using rests from the top of a truck. This year we plan on spending one or two days hiking off of my friend's property onto public shooting land. We will climb fences, etc to get where we need to go. I prefer not to bang up my $2500 Cooper rig so I picked up this upper. I will hump this RRA rig around a little bit so I prefer not having a long A2 stock on it. A collapsable stock in the lowest postion will make it a little more compact for climbing and such.

2nd reason: I know that my wife and 8 year old son are going to want to shoot it also. The LOP on most fixed stocks are too long for them to get comfortable.

3rd reason: Using the CTR-N is my 3rd reason.....I don't want to have to remove the existing buffer tube. It took an act of God on my last attempt to swap out to a mil-spec tube on a RRA.

I do subscribe to the old adage "build the rifle around the shooter, not the shooter around the rifle".

Installed the new stock...took all of 15 seconds.

The MagPul CTR-N is rock solid with zero rattle or looseness inherent to many collapsable stocks. The CTR-N is a drop in replacement for AR15s with non-mil-spec buffer tubes (RRA, Bushys, etc). The CTR-N comes with the rubber buttplate attached (this is a separate item on the mil-spec stocks). This isn't for recoil but a "grippy" spot for those wearing things like body armor, etc to keep from slipping. The design is fantastic. The first lever allows the stock to slide into one of the 6 hole postions and the second lever is engaged to add a friction fit to the stock. The feel is quite similar to an A2 stock. It's that tight.

I am positive that this stock will work well for all my needs on this rifle.

I like it, especially since it works for you.

I've got the same CTR stock in FDE on my AR, and find it very comfortable. I really like how secure it is with absolutely no movement.

Still waiting on the UBR

I'd rather wait for the UBR that I think will do just fine, thanks. It's the product I've dreamed of all my life. Literally since shooting my Father's CAR-15 back in the early '80's.

Hopefully they can resolve the manufacturing issues sooner than later. The CTR is a nice option for me since I will be using it in SD in June and the UBR may or may not be out. Another grain of salt.....I paid $100 for the CTR-N and the UBR will be $200+.
