I answered yes because I thought it was the best choice among the options. I admire the simplicity of the Glock, something sorely lacking in the newer metal chassis plastic frame designs. And I consider simplicity a very important attribute in a combat handgun. I don't consider the Glock the best combat handgun in every category, but I know of nothing better overall today (or even something designed prior). A better combat handgun will likely come along some day.

All that being said, I'm not a huge Glock fan and don't shoot the Glock all that much. I choose to shoot other pistols for other (non-combat) reasons.

I like my G17 - accurate, reliable, priced ok, durable. And I expect to buy another Glock or two before I am done buying pistols. (If such a thing can happen.). However, before I replaced the trigger on my G17 it was “blah”, and with the new trigger it’s just up to OK. If I was headed into combat, I’d really want a rifle and not a pistol, so in my opinion this question is kinda moot. But if I had a pistol in addition to the rifle, a Glock would be a fine choice. However, I would feel the same about a Sig - and evidently so does the Army and Marines when it comes to what they use and buy. And for those that argue the 1911 is dated (love that trigger though), it still has a service record in active duty far past what Glock has seen.

Given that there are other modern pistols that the military considers just as good, and that Glocks do not have the service record of the 1911, my opinion is “No”. You are welcome to disagree. :)

I hate the word best...……… unless I'm saying "That's the best sex I ever had!"

There is no best in guns. There's best for you...…………

I don't see Glock as being best at anything except at being a throw away gun. You may see it as best at everything. Enjoy if you do.
