I'm curious. My ex-FiL had one and sort of liked it. I shot it a few times and don't have any strong recollections one way or the other.

I'm just asking, because the used ones are starting to get stupid cheap on GB.

Are they stopping production, or are sales just low, or is the product just not very good?

If members have them and like them, and I can win a decent one for a $200 bid, I don't see why I shouldn't try one out.

Thanks for your help and advice! :)

I had an xDsc in 9mm. Good gun, well made, shot well. I traded it for something a little slimmer for carry. I think they’re good quality, just not the latest, greatest.

They are a decent pistol and they used to have a following. To be honest I don't see or hear a lot about them anymore and haven't thought about one in a while. Personally, the grip safety is a deal killer for me. I had one briefly and liked it well enough, but I came to the conclusion that the grip safety was more likely to prevent the gun from firing when I wanted it to fire than to prevent it from firing when I didn't want it to.

The trigger is a true single action just like a 1911, but with no manual safety. Glock, S&W, Sig and every other striker fired gun is technically a DAO design. In practice there is very little difference in how the trigger feels, but the fact that it is a true single action is why it was never considered by any LE agency. They usually specify DAO or DA/SA.

But for $200 it would be hard to go wrong. I might even consider another at that price.

SA trigger is correct. Definitely does not compare with a 1911 trigger! :D

Springfield's new Echelon seems to be taking the spotlight nowadays. Wonder if it'll replace any of their current lineup?

I'm curious ... Springfield XD Series Okay?
They have grip safety like 1911 and shot well for me.

If you reload and shoot 200 gr SWC in 45ACP, XD45's slide rib would not push the top round in the magazine low enough for the extracting case rim to clear the shoulder of SWC in the magazine ... So no go and many used 200 gr RN bullets instead.

This issue was fixed with XDm45 which has slide rib that pushed the top round in the magazine low enough for extracting case rim to clear the shoulder of SWC in the magazine.

If you could buy one for $200, that would be OK.

I have 5 XDs/XDms/XDss, 3 in 9mm and 2 in .45ACP. Factory triggers aren't the best and aren't as easy to tweak as Glocks, but once you get them smoothed out, they're fine. I sold all my Glocks.
I like the grip safety. Never had a problem with it not engaging in many thousands of rounds. Never had a jam.

I haven't been interested enough to confirm it, but I've heard from more than a couple of "who should know" folks that the Echelon will be replacing the XD/XDM line...so that SA can have a modular FCU in their lineup

I bought in to the XD line very early (2004). I have the original version of the XD in 40S&W in all three sizes. My XD-40 Tactical (5-inch) has approximately 40,000 rds through it, mostly in USPSA and 3-gun competition. I have had very few issues with the gun over that time. I also owned an XD-45ACP for a couple years in there. It was a good gun too but I traded it away to get a S&W 625.

I like the original XD, it fit my hand well and if you will to do the work or pay someone the trigger can be tuned to be a very nice trigger. The only problem with the XD-40 is since it was built directly on the 9mm frame the magazine are not true double stacks, thus only getting 12rds when most 40S&W get ~15 rounds in the same length magazine.

I have an Xd45 compact bought new around 2008 which never gave me any problems but I think the design is past its prime. But if the price is right it's solid.

TY for all of your kind encouragement.

I expected everyone to try to talk me out of buying another gun. ;)

Apparently I'm willing to pay $205 (plus shipping and FFL).

I'll have a range report in a week or so.

Overall they are a decent gun. However they have a couple known issues that I think drove away a lot of people over the years. One of the trigger pin breaks and something in the grip safety can break. Both of these issues only seem to happen to hard use guns and not all of them.

Several big trainers have noted these issues in classes.

Here is hoping you enjoy your new gun and the price isn't much above that of a new Hi-Point. ;) My only experience with one was when my son-in- law bought one several years ago and I shot it some. It just didn't feel "right" to me and apparently it didn't to the SIL either as he traded it for a full sized Smith M&P after shooting mine which he still has. Functionally it never had any problems while in his ownership.

My XD (9mm SC) and XDM (3.8 .40) replaced a couple Glocks 10-15 years ago.
Fit my hand better.
The grip safety isn't an issue.
For what they are, plastic functional striker fired handguns, I like them.
Not high volume shooters, a few thousand rounds each, but never a problem.

I shot a friend's .40 S&W XD a few years ago. It was comfortable to shoot and I shot accurately with it. For a recreational pistol it seemed nice.

The only thing I don't like about XDs is you have to have to depress the grip safety to to retract the slide, which could be a problem if you have to rack the slide one-handed and you're weak from injury or you can only acquire an compromised grip.

I bought an XD-40 Service 4 inch new in 2002. I think that is the first year of the Springfield name on them. An underrated pistol, as it's very reliable, durable, accurate, and well-built. In 21 years, I never had a problem with the grip safety or roll pin problem. Overwhelmingly people that own them or have owned them are positive about the XD. For $200 that is an outrageously low price for such a quality pistol.

FWIW, the one I purchased is a "subcompact" 9mm with a 3" barrel.

Kinda just for fun, like "Why not, for a bid of $205?"

But I also don't have one that exact size, and it might be good for certain pockets.

I got it paid for and the FFL papers sent today. Should get it Tuesday or so.

I have a couple, an XD45 full size and an XD 40 Service model. Both dead reliable and quite accurate. I used the .40 for a handgun course and fired 500 rounds in under a six hour total time frame with zero issues. I'd get another anytime, and I have lots of handguns. Maybe a Hellcat although 9mm doesn't excite me much!
