Today, I got a delivery from a Combat Vet (USPS delivery on Memorial Day!!!!)and he knew what was in the box. Fulton Armory returned my Garand from refinishing/ and it came today - he was as emotional as I was from the day/symbolism. I opened it right there in the front yard.

I pray that whomever carried this 1943 M1 Garand came home safely and that we aren't honoring their ultimate sacrifice today. If they did indeed pay the highest price, they will live in the memories of this rifle forever.

Amazing! But how did you get a delivery from the postal service on a federal holiday? Seems like truly a miracle day! God bless all our fallen heroes.

I don't know if it was a special delivery because he wanted to/felt he had to0?, but it came. Same with a few amazon packages via USPS...no mail though.
I wonder if package delivery is separate from the US Mail in how the USPS operates....
All I know is I was surprised by the package....I didn't expect it today.

What all did they do to it?
Operating Rod, Gas Plug, Trigger fix, National Match Sights, and Clean up. My first M1 was in much much better shape, this one was a known project as I bought it from the CMP North store last Fall. It made it through the first clip of 30.06 but choked on the second clip at the 10th and 15th round...both times tossing the OpRod out and leaving it stuck.
I had to make it work, so off it went to Fulton Armory to get back into shooting shape.

I'm curious why you didn't contact CMP to make it right? I've heard nothing but good about their armorers and customer service. Just a thought.

Lol now Fulton Armory is part of the problem...they think it's a gas "plug" too! No wonder that incorrect term won't die.

I did call the CMP North store at Camp Perry where I bought it, Rifles are as-is, no warranty even though I bought it that day from them.
My Camp Perry Hi Power guys at my home club all recommended FA as being faster than CMP Armory.

Beautiful work!

I need to send them the M1 Garand my Dad had done up like a parade rifle decades ago. IMHO the gun needs to be brought back to service life.

It was done well, but the metal is polished/gloss blued, stock is glossy, bolt is jeweled, gas tube is in the white and polished, etc.

Stay safe.

I find this as the garand's world of magazine and clip, bullet and cartridge. Very few people that are going to own an 80+ year old rifle are not going to know the correct term for the parts. I see it as why bother, but I guess it gives some folks something to feel good about.

If my Dad had it done then I wouldn't undo it... .

Yeah, it’s a tough call. But it looks too fancy for a SA 3,500,000 series rifle that possibly saw end of WW-II action (roughly Feb-1945 date) and probably saw Korean War action.

I haven’t gauged the barrel, nor have I fired it yet, but since it is a Blue Sky (sigh) I won’t be surprised if it is shot out.

I guess I will fire it first, if it shoots ok I will leave it. If it needs a rebarrel then I will do a refinish as well.

Stay safe.

Yeah, if it needs a new barrel then that's different.

Sometimes U.S.P.S. will deliver packages that are close to being over due regardless of day. People work at the Post Office 24/7. And with any business it's all about the numbers shipped and the number of satisfied customers in a given time frame. Why do you think station clerks always ask you to fill out the questionnaire listed website at the bottom of a postal receipt. So they can tell Washington D.C. they are doing their job, par excellence.

If only they opened a free downloadable army TM online they would know these things instead people who should know better continue to misname things when they are clearly different. JCG himself named these so we should take his word for it.

We as garand collector should be educating the newer ones to the correct terminology.

I'm glad you were able to get it fixed. Just seems off from what I've read on the CMP forum. Enjoy your awesome battle rifle!!

Enjoy your Garand.

TreyVeston - is that an original USMC sniper rifle or built?
