Afternoon, I acquired an Iver Johnson Target Sealed 8 recently and I’m trying to determine its year of manufacture. It has a serial number stamped on the bottom of the trigger guard. M65343 Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Bud

Thanks, I’ll check out the site. I like knowing as much as I can about guns in my collection. From my research, I figured late 1940’s or early 1950’s. Bud

Welcome Budrow -

I also acquired a Sealed 8 recently. May we have a look at yours?

I have a buddy with a supershot sealed 8 in great condition and he won't sell it to me :p

I’ll try to take and upload some pics later today. Had to watch my Treps fall to Wisconsin last night...

Well , while we wait for new member Budrow to post an image of his new acquisition , I will IMG_0161-1.jpg wet Dr. Rob's appetite with a look at the Sealed 8 I got a few months ago for a song ... it is from 1940 or thereabouts.

Here some pics

And the rest... Also, after further research, I checked under the grips on the frame, & that serial number is M65352

I haven’t seen any pictures yet so I am not sure that mine is the same as the OP’s.

Mine is marked .22 Supershot Sealed Eight and is a topbreak.

The last pic is the serial number if anyone has an idea of what the year of manufacture might be.

When I started my post there weren’t any pics, I see now that we have two different models all together.

It looks like the only similarity is the grip.

Yes, these are different. Mine has a pull pin and then the cylinder slides out of the frame. Load 8 rounds, put the cylinder back in the frame, line up the pull pin hole with the cylinder, reinsert the pin, and it’s ready to go ! The top break seems it would be tad faster to load, I’d say. I also have a HR 922 chambered for .22LR with a
2 1/2 barrel (it also was made with 4” & 6” barrel options) that loads the same way but, it holds 9 rounds. Mine was made in 1956, according to its serial number. From what I’ve read the HR 922 was very popular and many, many were made. It was very economical for the period. I’ve seen old ads from the ‘50’s, $28.95.

Budrow I have an H&R Model 900 that has the pull pin to release and remove the cylinder to load. Mine is a 9 shot. It is accurate as well.

Nice piece, and yes, the old H&R’s are accurate revolvers. H&R barrels were advertised as boing manufactured with “BULLS EYE” BROACH RIFLING. Exclusive H & R rifling process. All 6 barrel grooves cut at once . . . no chance for variance in size or position.

H & R 922 2 1/2 barrel .22LR, with H&R exclusive Tenite “ Cling-Fast” grips, manufactured 1956.

Just a follow up to my original post, my Iver Johnson Target Sealed 8 frame serial number M65352, was made in 1949 according to W.E.Bill Goforth's book (Iver Johnson:Arms & Cycle Works Firearms 1871-1993) In my continued research, I was provided this information by someone who has a copy of his book.
