J-Frame vs K-Frame Snubby (Pocket Carry)

For me a Model 638 in a Nemesis pocket holster makes for a very comfortable way of carrying a J frame. If I were to go up in size in a revolver, like a Model 12, then I would go with a DeSantis IWB Sof-Tuck holster.

I've tried carrying a jframe 642 in my right front pocket and it feels like a brick. I use a FIST extra thin kydex holster IWB at appendix carry. besides, ever try to draw your gun from your pocket seated in a car with your seatbelt on? I do have a NAA mini revolver that I carry in my right front pocket on occasion.

Corpral_Agarn I note that you are from northern CA. We will be traveling to your area in the next few weeks to see the Redwoods. Which of the parks are the best to visit?

I pocket carry a j frame daily.

I can't imagine doing that with a k frame, although that's what I keep ready for home defense.

Even with lighter weight, a K-frame Airweight like the Model 12 is too bulky to pocket carry, IMO. I pocketed a J-frame for a time but my wrist doesn't like the recoil nowadays (reconstructive surgery). I can fit a Ruger SP101 3" in a pocket holster, but it's only feasible when I'm working around the yard and I'm wearing pants with big pockets and suspenders.

As summer rolls around and shorts weather takes hold, I start to carry my 642-1 more often. It generally is carried in a Galco Pro 158 leather pocket holster with a speed strip in the off side pocket.

Much heavier than an Airweight and it goes on the belt. If it goes on the belt, it might as well be even bigger and heavier. If it is bigger and heavier, it generally turns into a mid-sized GLOCK with a spare mag.

So in summary, pocket carry for me is never bigger than my 642-1. K frames are right out...
