I just bought a 40 cal handgun. Now I'm looking for a for something with a longer sight radius that has the same caliber. I know the AR comes is .40 but is there anything else? Are semi-auto UMP-40's available? What are my options?

Thanks,

-W

There are .40S&W semi-auto only HK94 clones (uses HK MP5/40 magazines) that were made by Vector Arms and Coharie Arms/Special Weapons. They are no longer in production, but you can still find them for sale on the auction sites.

There is also the .40S&W Ruger PC4 (uses Ruger P series magazines). It has been discontinued, but you can still find them for sale on the auction sites.

What .40 handgun. The sub 2000 comes in 40 and there are various grips available so maybe on will match the mags you are using for your handgun.

beretta cx is available in 40... saw one at the last gun show. i believe the price of admission was $700...

you shoudl look into the berretta cx4 storm. my dad has one, and it has been 100% reliable and accurate. trigger is a little tough, but it is a neat, ergonomic little carbine, well worth a look.

I would suggest the Kel Tec as well.. but there is the option of much more expensive Hk MP5 clones... they can be had for right around a Grand.

i have a Kel Tec Sub 2000 in 9mm and the thing is just a hoot to shoot. the folding feature and the fact that it's actually quite accurate (for a pistol caliber carbine) just seals the deal all that much more. they are the least expensive way to get into a pistol caliber carbine too, last i checked. the trigger could use some improvement but hey, what do ya want for $289? (that's what it was when i bought mine anyway) i think you'd be very pleased with one. be sure to let use know what you decide.

Ok, is there a listing of grips for this thing? It's ugly but very functional and cheap. If the accuracy is good then we might have a winner.

The HK clones, Beretta and Ruger are tempting as well. But $280 for a folding gun that might accept the same mags is difficult to argue with.

I don't own one, and havent even seen one in person, but the Mech Tech looks very intresting.

Hi Point, cheap, ugly, gets the job done for what a 9mm or in your case .40 is called for, they keep saying they are coming out with one in .45acp, they keep saying May, just not in what year.

Kel tech is a good gun but I don't think you can beat the look of the cx4 and Beretta has a good rap. Especially with a nice military red dot. Very cool gun. Almost bought one because I have two Sig 40 S&W pistols and, like you, wanted to reload the same bullet for multiple guns. However, I already have an AR-15 and I only need one military type rifle. What I really want to find is a cx4 looking rifle that shoots 44 mag -- someone let me know if you find that and I'll trade in my AR-15 asap! I never plan on defending myself much over 50 yds and the 44 does a hell of job at that range. I have plenty of 308s, 7mms, 243s, etc for the long range shots.

Funny, I took the opposite route. I get a PC4 carbine on sale and decided I had to have a Ruger pistol to go with it. Problem now is I have to spend so much time in the garage making enough ammo to feed both.

Go with a Beretta CX4 Storm. I've got one in 9mm and it just chows and spits hundreds of rounds with zero complaints.

My vote goes to the Kel Tec Sub 2000. I have one in 9mm and I love it. The Beretta Cx4 Storm is too spendy. As for the Hi Point, I will say this, they are uglier than home made sin, but they go BANG every time you pull the trigger. The price is good, and ATI makes furniture for it that really makes them look better.

I believe they come in Smith and Wesson, Beretta, and Glock types, 9mm and .40 for all. I may be wrong, but I believe the Glock version can also be had in full size or compact lengths.

Had a Storm, didn't really like it. My only pistol caliber autoloading carbine these days is a Marlin Camp 45. If I were to get another 9mm or .40 carbine, it'd be the Kel-Tec sub-2000. IIRC, they can configure them to accept Glock, Beretta, S&W and perhaps a few other magazines.

I'd take a look at a Hi-Point for a cheaper gun, a Beretta if I had more money to spend.

The Hi-Point is so ugly and cheap that I'd probably go that route. :D But the people who own 'em really seem to love 'em.
