Last Saturday I purchased a Ruger Mod. 1A chambered in 6.5x55 Swedish. I have always had a liking for both the caliber and for the Ruger Mod. 1. This one had nice wood with decent figure as well as the right caliber...it was a no-brainer.

I went out today to find a good scope for the rifle. Now I usually use a 3-9x40 or 3.5-10x44 depending on caliber and intended use; my -06s get 3-9s, my .25-06, intended for Pronghorn and Coyote and likely longer shots, gets a 3.5-10.

The Ruger is short, by virtue of action type, and light; I wanted a compact scope that made sense for this rifle, that I will use primarily for deer. I decided on a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x34 with a duplex reticle and mounted it with Ruger's provided rings. Turned out great...I'll be testing it on Thursday or Friday. I was able to produce a roughly 3/4" group at 50 yards with the iron sights but struggled to see the rather small front sight bead with my 65 y/o eyes. I'm hopeful I'll be close to one MOA with the glass on it. It will be a wonderful little stalking rifle in a wonderful caliber. I just ordered a bunch of Lapua brass and 139gr Lapua Scenars for practice and picked up a box of Barnes TTSXs for hunting.

Stay tuned.

I am a big fan of the #1's and have owned many over the years.

Recently I have become a big fan of the 6.5 cartridge.

So what is the twist on your #1?

It is sure going to look nice with that right sized scope for it.
