These tasers are being abused these days. Cops use them for any reason now.

From various sources Ive heard using a taser could be considered seriously bodily injury because if tased long enough it could possible kill you, plus its disables you.

If someone tried using a taser on me without cause, Im going to respond back with force of my own. Eat Jacket Hollowpoints!!!

"Really folks, why is he a scumbag?"

Well, from the earlier articles posted in another thread, I'd have to say that at the absolute very least he was very friendly with the scumbags. He was staying at a house that had been raided 2 DAYS BEFORE and the police found drugs, guns and 4 1/2 STICKS OF DYNAMITE.

I know, I know, it doesn't matter because everybody has recreational drugs, recreational guns and recreational dynamite. ;)

(sarcasm on)
But he was a CCW holder, and a war vetran!!! He has to be a good guy!
(sarcasm off)

This has nothing to do with whether or not he was a scumbag.

It has to do with, what did he do to deserve getting tazed 3 times and shot?

So living in an appartment, or moving out of one, OWNED by a criminal, makes you a "scumbag"??

Cops in Florida have even started using them on elderly people for being "verbally beligerent." The problem with Tasers is that police use them in lots of circumstances where they would not otherwise feel free to use force. They are being used by some cops as a means for teaching people a lesson on how to properly address a police officer. If I am unarmed and minding my own business walking down the street and a cop yells, "Put your hands on your head and get down on the ground." I have a RIGHT to ask him why. Some police seem to think that anything they tell anyone to do under any circumstance is a "lawful order," but that is pure crap. The police have to have a REASON for their actions. If there is no warrant, no probable cause, not charges and no arrest, they had better no be telling me to put my face on the pavement unless they want a harassment suit. Its about time that we recognize the difference between an officer of the law doing his job and a punk with a badge getting his rocks off by applying perceived authority improperly.

You'll have to back that statement up with numbers, not just anecdotes, otherwise it is just as truthful as saying, "people are being incinerated by lighting bolts everywhere nowadays!" just because you have heard of one or two cases on the news.

Tasers are used quite a bit, because they are effective tools and usually save the suspect and the officers from being injured. No, the first one is not a typo, or hyperbole. They are not used "for any reason", though. The reason you hear about them is because they're much more novel and spectacular than mace/OC, but fill a similar niche.

Cite? And I want stats, not just an anecdote. I've seen a police car run over a suspect (legitimately), is it correct to say that the police are just plain running people down nowadays?

Cite? Otherwise, you're just making stuff up.

Correct, they do, but they do not have to tell you what it is before you comply. Case in point- someone matches the description of an armed robbery suspect. For the sake of argument, we'll say they match it to a tee. Even better, this person is the armed robbery suspect. Police show up, order him to stop and put his hands on his head.

Should they then be required to play 20 questions with him while he decides whether or not this is a good enough for him to obey? I say no. You might disagree.

If there is no warrant, no probable cause, not charges and no arrest, they had better no be telling me to put my face on the pavement unless they want a harassment suit.
Yes, but they are not required to explain the exact nature of their PC to you before you decide to comply. If, afterward, you think what they did was BS, I wholeheartedly encourage you to engage in every legal recourse you have, from requesting a supervisor to suing the department or seeking a federal 'color of law' indictment. But understand that the discussion about PC will not be held over the barrel of a gun.

Its about time that we recognize the difference between an officer of the law doing his job and a punk with a badge getting his rocks off by applying perceived authority improperly.
And, upon first approach by the LEO, pray tell, how does one know the difference?

Like here in St. Louis someone whos a member of Nellys group was tazed by a hazelwood police officer almost 40 times. Btw this is hazelwood whos police cheif wanted to confinsacte LTC guns and do balistics test on them, and told his officers to draw on permit holders when they stop them.:cuss:

Tazing someone that many times for no reason, one of these days they will taze the wrong person liek this, and that said persons going to respond with force.

In St. Louis City Police dept I dont see their officers carrying tazers. Most are still carrying their basic mace, and their billy clubs. Still works for them

Every officer I know that carries a Taser has been "Tasered". I don't have the luxury of carrying one but I have taken the ride to see what it's like. While you're being shocked you are totally disabled but when it's over, it's over and, like I said before, you can function normally.

So you consider throwing up in a flower box "functioning normally" after being tasered?

ABC news reported that Florida leads the nation in Taser deaths, but I can't find it.

I'm also looking for the one that happened here locally last year where the Lee County Sheriff's Deputy, a 6'2" 260lb guy tasered a 90lb 13 year old girl in a hospital bed.

Open google and type in Florida Taser deaths and amaze yourself, you're hooked to the same internet we all are...

To say that you need statistics for it to be true is a bit disengenuous. For there to be statistics, someone has to do a study. Maybe someone did and maybe someone didn't. What I can tell you is that I've seen a half-dozen stories on inappropriate use of Tasers on the local news over the last year. In some cases, the incident was actually caught on camera. In others, there were a lot of witnesses.

My personal favorite was the unarmed woman in her sixties who was sitting down on a bench in the police station waiting room and got Tasered when she "refused an order" to put down her cell phone while she was trying to call her husband. THAT is BS any way you cut it.

I also like the 70 year old grandfather who got Tasered at Disney in front of his grandfather. A cop was giving him crap about something. None of the witnesses were sure why. The guy eventually got sick of it and asked if he were being charged with something. The cop said no. The guy turned around and walked away. The cop told him to stop. He didn't comply and the cop Tasered him. Nice, huh?

There have been similar incidents at Universal Studios.

Another woman got Tasered because she was pulled over on a remote stretch of road and did not want to get out of her car. She was calling her husband on her cell phone to tell him what was happening when the cop Tased her through the open window, dragged her out of the ground and juiced her a few more times while she vomitted. Sounds reasonable, doesn't it?

Sorry, guys. This is not law enforcement. Its thuggery.

85 posts of people arguing over alleged facts from a news article. When somebody gets some witness statements and court transcripts we'll be able to discuss this.

Until then, this is just people wasting bandwidth typing out what their personal biases tell them must be right.....

This one is done.
