I was wondering if anyone had any better information on these rifles.
I saw them on Century's website. Most of them say they will be available 1/26. They don't list a price which is critical to my ultimate interest. Looks like they have models made in several different countries.

Any information would be appreciated.

Dunno about those ones specifically, but I have one of those Spanish mauser .308s, and it's a world of hassle. I'd probably just buy a K98 in 8mm, if I were you. The bolt design is different between the two, granted, but on mine extraction is rather......coarse, to say the least. And then there's the pressure problem, etc etc etc.

Just my nickle's worth.

K98 is plenty strong enough for .308, unlike the '96 small ring Spanish Mausers.

I have a Israeli Mauser that I bought in the late eighties. I (unfortunately) sproterized it...it turned out beautiful but I still wish I had one in original condition.

Mine was an FN-produced Mauser 98K. Israel converted these to the standard NATO round. I love the irony that the main rifle of the Nazi's turned out to be a major 2nd tier arm of the Israeli state.

The dealer price ranges from $189 to $300 figure markup from there, they are already available ya just need a dealer to order for ya. These are chambered for 7.62x51 not .308 win, they were originally israle conversions, from there they were sold to various south american countries.. As a collector piece they are in kinda rough shape, the various prices are based on condition and stampings etc... these were captured german rifles given to the Isreal as war reperations.

The 8mm is a superior round from a Mauser and far cheaper to shoot.

Well, I bought one of those Ishapore Enfield rifles from AIM Surplus. I just like the idea of a fairly cheap .308 bolt action that also has some collectible charm. 30.06 would work also. I have a lot of ammo (for me) in both calibers. I thought these might end up being fairly inexpensive. We'll see.

At this time, I really don't want to branch out to another caliber with 8mm. I'll soon be forced to do that with the M1 Carbines the CMP will be selling and that is more than enough for now.

mechag, actually these are highly collectable rifles that were very very rare untill recently thats why Century has a higher price on them.

AH, now that is one clean weapon!! The ones century has mostly came here after a tour of duty in SA......... yours looks to be onea the early isreal imports...

These rifles are scarce, but far from rare. There are plenty out there, but many were "Bubba'd" and a lot of shooters/collectors are holding on to the nicer ones. A good number came in through the 80s and 90s, and they are still in circulation. Unfortunately many that are readily available are in poor condition with significant metal pitting under rotten wood. I have found or been offered too many of those lately.
The few that Century is offering in their latest circular are listed in "FAIR" condition. I read their definition of "FAIR" and decided to not even consider getting one.
With a little patience and hunting, you can find a nice one for a good price.
And FWIW, 7.62 NATO/.308 is a much better all-around cartridge with a much better/cheaper future than 7.92 Mauser.

I was thinking prior to 1968 as no import marks.I got it out of a pvt. collection.wish I had more $$ at the time as there some mint mausers.

So just to be very clear,

The israeli FN barreled mausers are more or less good to shoot 308 commercial out of?

I've heard plenty of people say yes and no over the 7.62 vs .308 out of a milsurp question, so can anyone else give that a nod specifically for this rifle?

with the isreali version ya should be good BUT check headspace first, use a .308 win as well as a NATO 7.62x51 gauge, they are different. The 98 is more than strong enough BUT these rifles that went through South america are badly neglected and were heavily abused so safty first.


BTW, The "milsurp" question depends on exactly what milsurp ya are talking about, as comercial .308 is thinner walled doesn't survive violent extraction from say a CETME/G3 well 7.62x51 Nato is lower pressure than .308 win so its not safe in some actions like older designed for blackpowder guns etc... but in the case of a 98 Mauser thats in good repair etc... should be fine, depends on the guns condition

I had three of them, and the bores were in great shape, seems that they fired only non-corosive out of them. Bought 2 from Century way back when, when I had a FFL, for $60!!!
Sold one, and bought another at an auction for $60.....Seems that someone tried to Bubba the stock.....Guess I have to pick up another one...... I let the guy in front of me buy another one for $80 ,with a cheap scope, and a sporter stock, he brought his wife,(big mistake!) and she was going on that's too much, etc... seems that they were on a tight income.....Poor guy only wanted a deer rifle....He got a good one!!!
Shot 308 commerical out of them and also my handloads.....for years, never a problem, and accurate.... too much for my eyes....
I did put on a english walnut stock, but keep the old one for my BNZ 40......
I would buy them than any Ishapore, but have one of those too, that I bought at the same auction......for $80 too....
Check the lugs and see if they both hit, and don't even bother checking the bore, I have never seen a bad 308 israeli 98k Mauser bore!!!!
