What do you carry in your Kahr PM9?

What have you tried that the Kahr didn't like?

Both of my regular 9mm carry loads worked in my Kahr...the Speer 124gr +P Gold Dot and the Winchester Ranger 127gr +P+ JHP.

I carry STD pressure Federal 9bp hollow points. Super reliable, the most accurate in my PM9, and reasonably priced.

I own a few Kahrs and only one of them gave me any real trouble. It was a CW9 that went back for a warped slide. I spoke at length to the director of the service department and he told me that if a Kahr is going to have feeding trouble with any ammo it will be with Gold Dots. The narrow, offset feedramp can be an issue with that particular round for some reason. Now I carry a PM40 In warmer weather and I have found that the WWB JHP 180gr loads that Walmart sells feed as good as any FMJ and are extremely accurate out of that little cannon. In my CW9 I have found the same to be true of the Hornady Xtp and of course the poly-tipped Critical Defense ammo. My Kahr also cycles butter-smooth with PMC Starfire which also has proven to be the most accurate ammo for me and my CW.

I have the MK9 thats just an all steel PM9 and at the moment i prefer Federal HST +P 147gr ammo in it.
But i do own a box of Gold Dot Short barrel 127gr +P if i feel the need to swap.
I like the 147gr for the fact it will penetrate deeper, In theory anyhow.
I want that as my MK9 is a bug too my 1911, So if ive ran 17 rounds of .45 threw that gun and have to go with the bug i want a heavy load.
In reality i should carry Ranger 147gr flat nose FMJ considering why i carry the gun.

But i do have a few days the MK is my main and only gun due to different reasons, But its not often. So thats why i leave the HST +P 147gr in the gun.

BTW ive shot every high powered load besides +P+ which i think is an unnecessary load and the MK shoots as soft as it does with normal target loads.
People really should shoot a PM series gun and see what they are missing out on, Even tho i know others have gotten lemons before.

Out of a short barrel I like heavier bullets because while all loads will lose something, the heavier weights tend to lose less proportionally than the lightweights both in terms of absolute velocity and as a percentage of the velocity goal. They are made to expand at low speeds and so they tend to still be in their velocity windows longer than lightweights.

This isn't nearly as important or relevant today as it was fifteen years ago, bullet designs have come a long way, but it's one (small) reason I like heavies anyway.

Coming from Kahrs mouth is good enough for me.
Although obviously they work fine in 9mmepiphany's Kahr.
I am currently still breaking in my PM9 and in fact just received 450 rounds of various fmj 9mm ammo yesterday from Natchez to try out.
After the break in I will try some of the tried suggestions.
I have always liked the Hornady Critical Defense FTX design and the performance tests I have seen.
Anyone have issues with the Remington Golden Sabres.
They work very well in my .380.

Gold dot 124gr. +P, I am actually pretty accurate with it at 20'-25' . Tightens up the group as opposed to the WWB ( which still hits it mark at the same distance, just wider group ). I will run 50 rounds 115 WWB + 2 magazines of the Gold Dot ( for reliability & practice ) at a practice session. Have 1 box of twenty " Black Talon " 147gr. but thats for the safe, lawyers fodder if I were to use it in a S.D.scenario, but the Gold dot is considered standard carry ammo by many . wvleo

I dont know a thing about a Black Talon but I remember seeing some for sale on GunBroker just the other day.

I use Gold Dot 124 gr +P GDHP-SB (for short barrels). It has functioned perfectly in my PM9.

124 grain gold dots, standard pressure, I haven't tried my 124 grain +P winchester pdx1 yet, I'm not sure if the recoil would be worth it in such a tiny gun.

Lawyer fodder meaning some local A.D.A looking for excess by the mild mannered civilian defending themselves with the dreaded " Black Talon " 9mm round. The pressure at the time resulted in Winchester rebranding them and I believe dropping the black teflon coating all together as they were reported to be able to penetrate Police body armour at the time. Anything Your lawyer doesn't have to argue on Your behave for saves You money. Because even during a good shoot ( especially I should say ) You should lawyer up. He ( Your Attorney ) will let You know when and how to cooperate with Authorities....wvleo

Whatever you decide to use for carry, please run at least a couple of boxes of it through the gun before using it for carry.

This would be a couple of boxes after the initial 200 round break in cycle...which I do with pretty much any 9mm I have around. Also, the carry ammo should function through the gun reliably, thought the whole test, to be considered a good carry choice

I load Speer 124gr +P Gold Dots in both my Kahr PM-9 and Glock 19. Recoil is a little snappy but manageable in the PM-9.

I've gotten to where I suggest running three fully loaded magazines (with one also in the chamber) of defense ammo thru a pistol to make sure the ammo reliably functions with the gun. Ammo that doesn't reliably feed or cycle the action will be apparent rather quickly.

Winchester Ranger 147 gr.(RA9T) in my PM9 most of the time but I would also be comfortable with 147gr. Federal HST or 115+P Barnes XPB,Tac-XP(loaded by Corbon, Federal or Black Hills)

I used to love 127gr Winchester Ranger SXT RA9TA. +P+ would be fun in that little gun...
