I just bought my first Glock after 42 years as a gun owner. Its a 20gen4. I've always been a Ruger Revolver guy. I thought I would change things up a bit.

I purchased this pistol as a woods carry, possible short range deer gun. I'm a reloader and I know the stock Glock gen4 barrel is fine for reloading but I'm thinking about a longer KKM barrel for hunting.

Tell me the good, the bad and the ugly, about the KKM extended barrel for the 20

Just had the KKM .40 conversion barrels for the 20 and 29, very high quality, more accurate than stock with plated and cast bullets, very nice fit, super smooth rifling.

Will I see any increase in accuracy with the longer barrel? Sight radius remains the same since the barrel protrudes past the slide.

This is all new to me.

I probably have at least a dozen KKM barrels in various Glocks, including my G20. A few of them are extended barrels.

None of the pistols that I carry have extended barrels, because of the difficulty in finding an appropriate holster that provides the retention that I want and that also accommodates the longer barrel. The extended barrels that I use are in my range guns, and frankly I can’t tell you that I’ve noticed a difference in accuracy or recoil or any other characteristic that I can attribute to the longer barrel.

When I carry it, I plan on using the stock barrel. For hunting I plan on a extended barrel. I did find a open carry holster that will work with both barrels.

So the extended barrel is more for looks than function?

You could get some more velocity out of a longer barrel more than likely and the kkm barrel will probably provide better accuracy. For hunting I would want either a red dot or adjustable target sights, if you can hit a 4” circle/apple at hunting range every time, have fun

I would be hesitant to hunt with a handgun right now because of my accuracy concerns

My effective hunting range will be 50 yards or less, further than that, I'm a spectator with this gun. I practice at 100yrds and with the stock barrel and 180g coated lead I can ring a 12" steel plate about 60% of the time.

The difference in price from a stock length barrel and extended barrel is not much. So which way should I go?

I currently handgun hunt with the following; 7.5" Super Red Hawk-open sights, 10.5" Super Black Hawk-open sights and a 6" GP100-open sights. I do not like scoped handguns. I have rifles for that.

Many states require the longer barrels for big game hunting.
The velocity benefit with heavy bullets and slow powders is another big pull.
