What's the tracer to ball ratio? I'm assuming 1 tracer to 5 ball. Man, that's a heap o' lead. Saw a couple at OFASTS last month. Night fire was AWESOME!

I heard the rounds for the mini gun are electronic ignition. Is that true? If so, do they use a regular primed cartridge? Inform the ignorant!
Not quite. The GAU-17 fires .308/7.62x51 NATO linked ammo. Same ammo as the M60 or M240D/M240G, so far as I know.

A very similar weapon, (Sort of,) also made by GE is the M61A1, which fires electrically primed 20mm rounds. The M61A1 is in the F14 and F/A-18, and is the basis for the CIWS "Phalanx" weapon. A three barreled version of it, the M197 is on the AH-1W Cobra.

A third "Gatling" type gun used by the Marines is the GAU-12 which is a pneumatically fired 25mm gun that is used in the AV-8B Harrier II and the LAV-AD. In the Harrier, the gun is fired by air bled from the 8th stage of the engine.

Dont those thing fire like 6,000 rounds per min.?????

Yes, for the standard 7.62mm M134 that we all know and love. IIRC, it is slower for the little 5.56mm model, as well as all the larger ones. I belive the 20mm used in the phalynx systems is 3,000 RPM and the 30mm vulcan is either 3,500 or 3,700 RPM. Not for sure on the others rates of fire, but I know the M134 at 6,000 RPM is the fastest cyclic rate cartridge firing weapon ever fielded by our troops.

Imagine feeding these guns At ~$0.50/ round + links:what:

Good way to drop $100 a second!

I can't recall what the last one I saw for sale was but I believe it was way north of 30k. I have seen video of one on a hummer and it rocked. As some one who just put away 650 pounds of 7.62 which would feed it for less than 5 minutes I am very impressed. You gotta love this country.

Regards,

James

Update. YAA.
